Blown Head gasket on 6.5 chev diesel
Ok i have run the old filler neck tube from the radiator into a bottle of water and found it is blowing bubbles, which will indicate a blown head gasket, there is no water in oil or vise versa.
How long would i expect this to last or is this like asking how long is a piece of string?
What sort of price would i be looking at to have the heads reconditioned, injectors done and new head gaskets?
Im thinking i should save some labour and pull them off myself.

Get out there!!
Brunswick diesels just quoted me $1900 for reco heads or $2700 for a pair of new heads. Gaskets are
$360
Linquip quoted $2500 on new heads but no recos available at moment.
I think a reco set would be ok, they are pressure tested for cracks and machined.
Hopefully i can get some exchange on mine too.
Never ending holes for money these 4wd's are!\
Unreal!

I would try a bottle of seal up in it you can get it from super cheap its a liquid you add to the rad water it works great but make sure you follow the instructions and only add it to water not coolant
Cheers

mate, ive read alot of info about these motors on here and other places like exploroz.com, firstly, there is a plug in the back of one head that should have a water return coming from it, the other head does but not this one.... if you havnt modded your motor, the back of this head gets so hot it turns the water to steam....this causes pressure in the system and overflow....This is what i have read, and i am wondering if it is happening to you.
Does any1 have a url for this discussion?? Otherwise, i would start by searching here and there
Andrew
ps, u may need to change your sigi...lol

Yeah i know this plug, i have read about it too, but no its a head gasket cause even from cold, the rad pressurises after about 30sec and blows bubbles.dow50r wrote:mate, ive read alot of info about these motors on here and other places like exploroz.com, firstly, there is a plug in the back of one head that should have a water return coming from it, the other head does but not this one.... if you havnt modded your motor, the back of this head gets so hot it turns the water to steam....this causes pressure in the system and overflow....This is what i have read, and i am wondering if it is happening to you.

I believe they are prone to crack around number 8 being right at the hot spot.
And richardsc, from all i have read, its more than likely a cracked head too so rather than pull it apart wit new head gaskets at hand, then find out it needs heads i will just buy the heads and have them on standby or i could be waiting up to a week with a pulled apart motor for the heads to arrive.
Id like to do u full freshen up while its apart but got bigger bills at the moment

ok, once they start loosing compression into the water gallery, theres not much you can do other than remove the rubber from the rad cap to stop it blowing off the hoses. Probably wont get worse fast, but you dont want to overheat it if possible.

Fair dinkum, more bad luck.
I drained the radiator before work yesty, i noticed while removing the bottom hose it was only clamped onto the end of the rad pipe, fitted the bottom hose back on once filled and pushed it all the way on i thought it would be better that way.
Got 20km down the road and temp rose dramatically, you wouldnt credit it, the hose was stood out for a reason, the power steering belt rubbed and cut a slit in the bastard!!!
Lucky for me, i had a roll of "RESCUE TAPE" i purchased from a stall at tuff truck this year.
I wrapped it up, and not a worry, the broke hose is like new again!! Hooray for rescue tape, GET SOME!
