AVM are shite, blew in half! ......Super winch set haven't let go yet with plenty of abuse, but there are alot of cap screws to remove to get them apart.
Go manual Nissan, their auto Hubs have malfunctioned on 2 of our trucks damaging the diff gears.

I fitted my manualized GU Auto hubs last night..

The modification took 10 seconds after removing them from the car.

Are manualized auto hubs any stronger than auto hubs tho?

I dont really see the point when you can still lock auto hubs to avoid the issue of them unlocking when you dont wish them to.

Unless you like doing 4lo 2wd burnouts of course.

reversing trailers up driveways, campsites etc and plenty of times low 2 is handy :cool:

In my experience its not the unlocking that's the problem, its the 'self engaging' one side only whilst driving!!

you can imagine what that does to diff gears.....

I'd agree.. being superior gear you know its going to take a hammering.
But I dont know that many people that destroy hubs on a regular basis.

We had a set of AVM hubs and one of them broke in around 5 places. We sent them back to where we got them from and they werent going to do anything. They told us we must have had a wheel off the ground. Well derrr it is called 4wdriving. They wouldnt give us money back, they gave us another set of AVM's (after a lot of heated discussion). We have already done another one and are saving up for Nissan ones! In my opinion I would go the Nissan ones because in the long run it works out cheaper!!

My left auto hub completely destroyed itself after a recent high country trip. I took off the right hub it looks fine, took off the left and as I slid it off the axle it fell in to about 6 pieces. Bits of the 2 metal tabs everywhere and the grease was grey from metal shavings. It looked like glitter all over the rag.
Went to the wreckers and replaced both sides with GQ manual hubs for $300.
GU Patrol intercooled TD42T, lifted, Cheezy sliders, ARB air locker, beadlocked Claws, Warn winch

I'm also interested in learning how to make my locked/auto hubs locked/free as discussed above. I have clicked on the supplied link but it gives info on changing to manual hubs not changing the auto ones.

ive seena couple of GUs listed with "AVM Hub Upgrade"

So my understanding is the standard hub fails, then people put AVMs on and they fail too? So the best bet is to slap some trusty GQ locking hubs on?
hands and mums dont count!!!

although ARB bloke was telling me they have redesigned the AVM's... so time will tell..

Dirty old 4.2 and dirty old GQ hubs. Nissan should've just stuck with what works.
