Just priceing some new leaf springs and shockies for my Hilux. Had a look at my current setup and it looks as though it would be easy to source the parts and do it myself. Is this the case or am I dreaming. Keep in mind I have no mechanical knowledge but am pretty handy with tools. I also have a friend that can help me.

Give it a go (what's the point in owning tools if ya don't use them). You might find there is lots of things you can do that will save $$$ in labour costs.

Yes it is a very Easy and simple process!!!

Some guys on here swap spings nearly every weekend!!!!!

Just one thing!!!

If you don't have a compressor (to run a rattle gun) then it would be a good idea to buy a good quality Breaker Bar as most of the Nuts and Bolts will be Hell tight!!!!!!!

I got a quote of $200 to put the new suspension in if I buy all the parts myself. I'm thinking this is a good option especially as I can help the guy out and see what he does exactly.

$200 is decent mate :D BUT $200 is a lot of beer also :D

Seriously just swapping leaves + shocks is eaaaassssyyy and you'll learn heaps doing it yourself

Invest in one of the Gregory's (I think) manuals that takes you through an entire rebuild of the rig, spend the rest on refreshments and spend some quality time with the hilux :P

You WILL do it again so learning how is a good thing A :?:

save some money do it yourself. If you own a four wheel drive and intend to use it, and you can't do very simple jobs like suspension you shouldn't own one! The only way to learn is to pull shite appart and put it back together.

I vaguely knew what I was doing and I put 60 series rear springs into my FJ73 in half a day, I do have an air compressor with the magic gun - oops I mean rattle gun...

I had to grind lugs smaller and shite aswell, did one side with a mate and the other on my own...

And learning, thats for sure, I can change struts and spring in a car, but leaves are a whole nother story, easy as though, dude, go for it...

mines cost me $420 :!: :!: (custom rears for front, ifs rear springs, dropped hangers, extended shackles and custom front and rear shock mounts)

im doing mine myself with some help from my bro :roll:
