TJM Prolocker, GQ, who's running one? Any problems?
Im looking at putting an air locker in the front of my GQ wagon. ARB has released a newly designed air locker, and ive heard that a production class car has broken two of them now, so im a little worried by this.
As the heading states, who's got a TJM Prolocker and has anyone had any issues/problems with them. I'm well aware that these lockers were originally built by jack mcnamara, and have been around for 20 yrs.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

or are they fixed now and selling them again?

In the future TJM will be outsourcing all their fires to China as well.joeblow wrote:last i heard tjm shipped all manufacturing to china and discontinued the pro locker. oh.....and thier factory burnt down recently.bogged wrote:they were taken off the market a while ago..narnturbogq wrote:As the heading states, who's got a TJM Prolocker and has anyone had any issues/problems with them. It was only the corporate headquarters that burned down, apparently. Manufacturing ops are elsewhere.
JacMac Diff's used to make the Pre TJM "prolocker", TJM bought the design, possibly the manufacturing is still with JacMac?

George Carlin, an American Comedian said; "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realise that half of them are stupider than that".
And the polishing area where the alloy bars are finished off. All the warehouse was saved by the fire doors. They are slowly getting things sorted.DAMKIA wrote:It was only the corporate headquarters that burned down, apparently. Manufacturing ops are elsewhere.

Phones are back online today but stock that is ordered has to be check for heat and smoke damage then sent out..
The Pro locker was recalled as some of the parts were being made by different companies to different specs so they were having problems it should all be now under one roof being made by them in there own factory..

I have just been looking into this as I had the ability to get a cheap S/H front pro-locker for the GU.
What I found is:
* TJM have released a new designed pro-locker for the GU front diff this month. Rear GU diff to follow by the end of the year/Jan next year.
* The factory fire did affect pro-locker production and there is a shortage of them which I assume is why there hasn't been a big fan-fare about it.
* There is no support for the old style pro-locker in parts etc. So if you break it you will sort of be on your own (which made the one I was looking a worthless). The new design is different and not sure on the level of parts interchangeability.
* Have a mate that ran the older pro-lockers in his GU and he loved them over previous Air-Lockers and they gave him no problem.
This info is through a mate here in the local TJM store who was in discussion with TJM headquarters.
- David.

I think ARB should donate me one for private testing..
I know for a fact that this particular bloke (who i wont name for his warranties sake), has broken two new design front lockers.
I was being diplomatic with what i was saying, because the thread is more about finding out what the TJM prolocker is like, and issues that anyone has had, not starting a thread to bag the new ARB Airlockers.

i doubt very much the truth in your "mate" breaking two of the two piece airlockers.
the steel arb uses has a higher breaking strain than any component you would find in a patrol.
they are much stronger than the original 3 piece design and also use a larger carrier bearing than nissan use as standard for extra strength.
where have these lockers of your mates broken?
who built them?
how much power?
how much weight?

This is slightly OT, but here are a couple of posts from Ashcroft Transmissions (automotive engineers with an excellent reputation) from another forum:
And re the Ford 9" ARBWe have had two ARB (genuine) 1 RD56, 1 RD128 split in half at the crown wheel flange!!
we make 4 mods to the 9" ARB RD99,
1) to fit to our new housing we have to machine the ARB on the non crown wheel side to pull the journal bearing in closer to the centre,
the other 3 mods are to improve the poor dog clutch engagement,
2) there are 12 small but strong disengagement springs, this is a huge force for the pneumatic piston to overcome on engagement, we remove 4.
3) the dog clutch only has 2.5mm engagement, we machine it to add 1mm more.
4) the internal air feed holes are 1mm, we open these up to 1.5mm.
not tested any of the above yet but hopefully it will improve the problems the 9" ARB suffers from.

I like the fact that TJM has has done away with the "O" ring that used to wear out in arb lockers, then spit oil back up the lines & spray out the top of the solinoids.. I was replacing this "O" ring about every 12 months..
but this was under competition use.
looking forward to fitting my front & rear TJM pro lockers soon.

I have had the same problem in my Front locker and I know of at least 1 other car having the same issue. ARB did repair mine under warrantynarnturbogq wrote:From all accounts the locking ring assembly doesnt engage as far as the old design, and this is where the locker broke, acting like it had a broken cv but it was the locker.
The car is a production class car, stock engine, 35s and the absolute minimum of weight.
