Options for eliminating the GV air disconect front diff?

Post by crazynic »

Hi guys,

I am right in the middle of installing some 5.125 diff centers into my 99 GV.

I ended up sourcing the 5.125 (41x8) diff centers out of a 2 door grand vitara...

The good news is that being out of a grand vitara they drop strait in...

The bad news is that the front carrier is alloy so im going to swap it into my steel carrier BUT while im doing that i wanted to get rid of the GV's air disconnect for added strength/reliability.

Now the first idea was to simply install an ARB air locker to get rid of the air disconnect but i have decided to just install a rear locker and keep the front open for now..

So the question is what other options is there for getting rid of the ADD?

I think i read somewhere that you can use a sierra rear (26 spline) diff center to convert the front diff to a standard set-up to be used in conjunction with manual hubs?

Any ideas?

apparently vitara diffs bolt straight in to the GVs, for the older models vitara the 22 spline side gears need to be swapped over for 26 spline side gears.
