Help with hilux auto and transfer shifter setup

Post by HUSSLN »

This is the shifter setup that apparently works. While trying to work out if the angles were even right the shifter broke off anyway so may as well weld it up so it works. It was not moving the shifter out of the box in the right direction anyway it was hard to engage and dis-engage low range. What have others done, its a mess with the commodore shifter, is my best bet to get an aftermarket shifter so i can neaten up and close the massive hole. heres some pics anyway any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Confused :?
You have a Hilux with a Commodore V6 & gearbox + hilux transfer ????
Is the Auto in neutral ??
Why won't a std shifter work ???
91' Hilux Surf with the usual mods & a few different ones ....

yeah commodore v6 an auto. With the current setup to select first the shifter is right on top of the t/case slector in its original posistion. Even in drive to keep the t/case selector in its factory shift points it would hit it selectin low range. the bracket that u see in the photo really makes hard work of putting it in high or low 4 the action is all wrong. I cant believe this setup passes engineers? To make it even remotley work theres the big gaping hole nothings sealed and hot air just flows in constantly. I ordered a b&m pro ratchet shifter today, means i can mount it off to the left out of the way, i can seal up the hole and get the factory rubber boot for the transfer shifter.

Mate all you have to do is get the shifter bracket and display from marks adapters, you run the original commodore shift the original hilux transfer shift with no mods and you get the shifter display in the kit.The hole in the floor will be covered by the bracket that marks supply and you run the original shifter boot over the top of your shifter and then your console and leather boot over the top of that its a factory look that is what i have done on mine, and it works a treat. If i can figure out how to post a pic i will show you my set up :)
