Suspension Stuff Winch Challenge at Scenic Rim

Post by Suspension Stuff »

Suspension Stuff Extreme winch challenge will happen in the future if there is enough people wanting a monthly comp.

But for now we are going to start a monthly series for Production class with an overall winner every 6 months.

On the 5th and 6th of December we are doing a pre series competition.

Production Class Winch Challenge
Maximum of 35" Tyres
Low mount and high mount winches allowed however dual motors and modifications not allowed
Need helmets and window nets. Roll cages not necessary but it would be safer.
Most other rules are the same as Dave Metcalfe's Extreme Winch Challenge. We will finish our rules one of these days.

I will be keeping a record of winners and rules on my web site. Here is the link https://www.suspensionstuff.com.au/shop ... ts_id=1826

Right now we are wanting to know who is interested in coming along.
It will cost $90 for the weekend and the winner will get a prize.

If you have any questions phone Shane on 1300 048 991 in work hrs or Mathew on 0419 782 442 after hrs

For this month we will have the regular Suspension Stuff Challenge out at Scenic Rim (Beadesert, south of Brisbane, Qld) as well as the winch challenge but we will most likely split the comps next year. There is going to be over 70 vehicles competing over the weekend.

Live entertainment on the Saturday night.

Shane

I'm keen. I've secured a set of 35" tyres as well as my normal 37's

Questions.

Is it going to be feasable to compete in both comps on the day? Especially considering that i will need to be swapping tyres in between the two comps.

I have two helmets, but only one window net. I'm guessing i'll need the second net to compete. what about harnesses?

Will my SSC entry fees cover entry fees for the the winch challenge?

My only suggestion is as follows. Please take it as constructive criticism and not a complaint. I'm keen to see both of these comps take off, but these are the issues as i see them right now.

1. Your vehicle class definitions are pretty good. Stick to them. There's been a few times in the last couple of comps where there have been instances of people bending the rules regarding vehicle mods. I.e. people using dual lockers or switching between back and front locker in modified class. Or people in higher classed vehicles competing in lower classes because they don't want to compete in the higher class. As i see it, it's a pretty friendly comp and getting your ass kicked in the class to which you've prepared your vehicle is no great shakes. But i'd feel gutted if i got pipped at the post in modified or standard by someone who is punching below their weight class. I fall into that category. As a competition driver i'm a complete novice, but i've gone and built a car that is basically an outlaw vehicle. I'd be gutted to come dead last, but at an acknowledged entry level comp like this i could definately live with it.

2. I'm really not convinced that running the winch comp on the same day as the SSC at such short notice is all that good an idea. There are still some organisational issues with the SSC that need addressing such as getting competitors mustered, announcing and controlling stages effectively, crowd control etc. I think that by staging another comp at the same time is going to really be pushing brendans limits for the time being. He's already busier than a blue arse fly at the SSC as it is.

3. SRAC is a pretty hilly venue. When course setting your winch challenge please bear in mind that it's typically faster than a normal crawling style comp. It's more about getting down tracks against the clock, and testing teamwork, safety and vehicle reliability while winching more than crawling massive off camber rocks etc. I'm really looking forward to really opening up that intercooled turbo and stretching the red devil's legs on some faster stuff

Like i said. please don't take this as a whinge. It's just some things i think need to be taken into consideration to make an already good event into a great event. I've done project management before, so i've got an inkling just how much you have on your plate brendan in organising something like this.

To everyone else, i have managed to get a hold of some in-car mounts for cameras. Can i have a bit of a show of hands who might be interested in having a cam in their car during some of the stages?

Looks like im to late.. I should have kept my mouth shut for a little longer. i do have a list of rules and regs which im going to keep to myself ;)
good luck with it all Shane and thanks you for asking me to look over the comp, but once A month is to much in my line of work. At least this way I can come and race a few times next year.
But it looks like there will be a couple of these type of comps on the scene in the future.
Even though there has been proposals on this type of winch challenge no has been interested... Bend the rules a little and keep it safe Im sure you will get the people interested.

I am not sure what time Sunday morning. At a guess maybe turn up at 8:30am. There will be a Saturday night run, you may be able to make it then.

So far we have one person confirmed

Sounds great. You only have to beat a Sigma at this stage. Do you want me to put your name down for next week.

Hey Shane, I don't have any window nets. And I need to buy another winch hook, mine isn't a closed hook. The Winch Challenge might be something to look at puttting into next years events. I just don't have enough time to organise nets and a closed hook for the BWS.

Thanks Piglet.

So far it is just Milo. I might have to enter the Jeep into a winch challenge.

Matt and I finalised the stages. We are thinking that mid morning is a good time to start the first stage on Saturday. Then maybe 7pm Saturday night and 9am Sunday.

i think that by the sounds of things ur so keen on getting something happening that u are willing to compromise the saftey of the event, maybe u should think about not running it this time and make the 1st one in the new year...??? just my 2 cents, im keen to go if thats what u want.

no I think it's more so letting the tight asses like Me have a go at it to entertain the crowd or give it a go in practice for next yr.

I really don't think he will let safety slip in the favour of getting numbers

Well one thing is for sure. You are not afraid of giving your 2 cents worth.

If we have just one driver and nav we will run the event. It is all good practice for Mathew and that one driver who has probably not done it before.

It doesn't cost much to get nets and even helmets can be sourced for $60 up Moss St.
