Impco 300A Mixer with airbox not even air-tight??

Post by BrentE »

I have just been checking out my air box and it isn't even air tight? Are they supposed to be like this or is mine dodgy? The bottom piece of plastic isn't big enough. I have some pictures..

Are there any aftermarket air-boxes that are available?

Looks much the same as mine used to.

It is pretty sub-par for a 4WD but that's the way it comes. I saw one guy who bought a cheap stainless saucepan (yes, a saucepan) at the right diameter, a bit of rubber etc and you have a rather good-looking cover for your air filter.

With mine I ran the intake out to the snorkel but never did get around to sealing the air filter housing before I sold the car.
This is not legal advice.

I used a VN 5.0l airbox to ensure good filter seal, made stainless mixer cover, bit of silicon hose and 3inch stainless snorkal. works awesome and still allows easy acess to rear plugs and leads.

i used a 20 litre drum, cut a hole in the bottom, and then cut the base off another as the lid, 2 holes either side and pipe into that.

Nice job, is it better to not have airfilter where mine is ontop of mixer? I was thinking of putting pod-filter at top of snorkel when i do it?

mine originally had the air filter over the mixer. by putting in a different airbox was able to make the mixer cover slightly more compact (used old air filter as template for diametre) plus i didn'y think that the ring filter sealed that well anyways. But i honestly dont think it'd make a massive differnce where the filter is situated. if i was gonna use just a pod filter i'd only use a high quality one like k&m. . . . but thats just me

All I did was remove the entire assembly when doing filter change and gaffa tap the whole thing. Did plenty of deep river crossing and bogholes with no problems.
