10.5'' tyres on 8'' rims??

Post by TimRover »

Hi all.
We are running 33/10.5/15'' BFG Muddies on 15x7" rims on the county at the moment.
These two sizes work realy well togethor and have never roled a tyre off the rim running low pressures (15lb's)
But these rims have very limited off-set so the wheel track is abit narrow and makes it harder to stay up high on ruts+it looks gay with the tyres sitting way in under the guards.

Anyway my question is can you safely fit 10.5'' wide tyres to 8'' wide rims?
We have a set of 15x8s that have a very wide off-set and would go perfect with the tyres if they didn't want to role off the rim to often at low pressures.

Any opinion's welcome.........

Hi,

I had 31/10.5/15's on rusty 7" sunnies and went to 8" alloys. No real probs but it doesn't handle quite as well turning into corners on bitumen when pushed hard, which surprised me.

cheers, DL

I am running 35x12.5x15 on 15 x 8 sunnies with a -25mm offset, and theres no problems.

your 10.5's will be fine even at low pressures.

drive sensibly and you wont have any issues mate :D

I'm running 31 x 10.5 x 15's on 15 x 8 sunnies also, recently damaged one to the point of not being able to use the rim.
Bridgestone tells me I can't get this size for a D1 anymore from anyone. I'm
still waiting for them to try to repair the rim.
They seem pretty slack though, as they've had my wheel for a couple of weeks now.

Sounds like ya talkin to the wrong people you can buy sunnies in 15x8 new still try ringing Bob Jane in kotara near newcastle they will sort you out

As for running the 31x10.5x15 on an 8 in rim it will be ok tho be careful when running low pressure

Thanks for your input guy's!!!

Thats the thing, we don't realy want to be careful and having to worry about tyres rolling off the rim, but i spose we can only give it a go, it will probably be fine going by everyones input!!

Thanks again

I previously ran 34 x 10.5 simex's on 7 inch rims and never had a problem with tyres coming off, even at 6 - 7 psi.
I'm now running a 285 x 75 on 8 inch rims and usually have a flat after each outing due to mud getting into the bead so I reckon if you deflate them a bit, mud and ruts will let the rest out for you.
