Hey Doe, I am not saying they are indestuctable, but there is no possible way in the world that you can just drive down the road & the fibreglass bonnet will crack. The SWB body we built was certified by an engineer as 3 times stronger than a steel one. We raced it & gave it a real hard time with no detramental effect to the fibreglass. It is still driving around today.
If the remark about rust was lame then tell me what guarantee Toyota will give you against rust. Have you ever looked at a 40 series guard in steel & seen the cracks at the top corners? I have never had this happen to a set of my guards. I have never seen these steel ones repaired successfully. Fibreglass can be repaired back to original strength or stronger if you want. It is more repairable than steel. when you weld steel your weld is the strongest part but you have a weak spot each side of the weld dont you? this doesnt happen with fibreglass if it is repaired properly.Doe believe your friends if you want to ,I dont know how much he knows about Fibreglass & you dont know me from a bar of soap, but I have been in the Fibreglass Composite Industry for 37 years now & I reckon I have rough idea what happens. Ask your mate how the panels cracked, if he knows (or did he just see them) . Like I said my passengers side door has cracks in it , but there is a reason for it, a tree fell on it! Believe what you want.
We have a panel beater down the road here who was buying new Monaro bonnets & cutting them up to suit other vehicles , mainly Commodores.The whole job came to about $3500 including the purchase of the bonnets. Would you buy one off him if he made it in steel for you. From memory I think I paid about $885 for the V8 70 Bonnet in steel & they wanted another $350 for the scoop insert ( I made my own insert) So it would be possible for you to get a steel bonnet. You are 100% correct , go to the top of the class lol I have this conversation often with potential customers. They say that they have heard Fibreglass can crack, havent seen it but a mate said so. I explain to them about the 40 series steel guards that often crack in the top corners & cant be repaired properly. Now which panel would you buy ? The steel one that can crack, Will rust ,will dint & possibly cant be repaired or the fibreglass one that may crack cause a mate said so But will always be repairable & is usually a cheaper alternative to a genuine steel one? Make up yuor own mind. Mick

Yeah Hardzy there is a web site but not much on it.www.frp.com.au we are in the process of building a new one , but these things take forever to do properly. just flick us an email sales@frp.com.au & we can reply to that with prices etc. I know off the top of my head the wind screen frame is $594 inc gst. We sell 20 - 30 of these each month. They have encapsulated nuts so all you have to do is take the 6mm bolts out of your hinges & put them straight into fibreglass frame, same as he ones over the doors .Everything else is pre drilled (sunvisors & rearview mirror).
getting off the subject , does anyone else have trouble getting onto this website.I have to try & retry for ages till it can finally be found. When I try to reply to someone like this , I usually have to rewrite it 3 times before it accepts it. I have been trying to get onto this site since 7am today. Is it only me, am I doing some thing wrong? Mick
