Powerful 4x4 Wheel carrier. What they like?
Hey everyone,
I'm after a rear wheel carrier for my 100 series and was just wondering what these are like? They advertise on ebay but also have a shop. Doe's anyone here have one or seen one? what are they like? whats the build quality like? and so on. Or do i just get a Kaymar one? I've been getting quotes and they seen pretty cheap.

Wonder how they'll hold up to countless corrugations with two heavy 33" tyres on steel wheels on the back...?
I'm very undecided which one to get for my 100 series...
$1690 (discounted price, RRP is $2590) supply only for the Powerful 4x4
vs
over $3500 Kaymar supply only (twin carrier for a solid axle 100 series).
Even if I chase down a good discount on the Kaymar, the difference is a LOT of coin.
The Powerful 4x4 one is far cheaper, quality looks fine from the one I've seen in the metal, but I subscribe to the opinion of do-it-once-do-it-right, and the Kaymar has proven itself.
Time may prove these cheaper bars to be an absolute bargain, but it's hard to make that dollar investment on a fairly unknown product.
With the Kaymar, it's tried and tested over many millions of collective km, and has been in the market for a long time.
It also integrates the towbar into the bar, giving a (slightly) better departure angle and cleaner lines.
I think I'll just wait and see for a while, see if anyone does some big trips with these new cheaper bars.

Having seen and fitted Kaymar, Allterrain and powerful wheel carriers i'd have an all terrain one for the dollars.
The powerful bar is noticably lacking when it's side to side with a kaymar.
Don't get me wrong, for all intents it appears to be built well for what it is but there's not as much metal in it as some others.
If you were putting a car on gas and wanted somewhere for the wheel then a powerful bar is hard to go past. But if you're touring outback tracks i'd put my coin into an allterrain bar...

The powerful ones would be ok for hanging your spare tyre from, if fitting a long range tank, or lpg tank, but the design is not suitable for offroad touring at all.
And to try and find somewhere to fit a broken off wheel and carrier on a fully loaded wagon could be a real problem.
We also have afew all terrain rear bars kicking around we have removed to fit some of the below, but I dont think there are any 105 ones out there at the moment.

On IFS 100 series, we have been doing many of these lately [and 80's]
we make the chainsaw racks,jerry holders, and fold down stainless tables here.
And to try and find somewhere to fit a broken off wheel and carrier on a fully loaded wagon could be a real problem.

The 100 ones the factory mudflaps will fit back on, the 80 ones, as per the pic above, we use a generic flat mudflap to replace the factory unit.

I have the Slee, sourced through Autocraft, and am very happy with it.
Factory mud flaps can be trimmed to fit, but generic flat style would probably look a bit better.
My only gripe is that getting the tow bar to bolt back up requires a bit of dicking around, nothing too major, and definately nothing to worry about and far outweighed by the positives.
