HJ75 fan belt problems

Post by norty40 »

I went to replace the belts on my 1988 HJ75 ute (got the 2H) and I'm having troubles getting the new belts back on. I've loosened everything off as far as it will go, i warmed them in hot water, i even took the idler pulley off but the stupid things still won't go back on. It only has about the thickness of the belt to go before it will go onto the pulley. I was wondering if there is anything else that I could loosen to give me that extra bit off room.

Are they both too short or only the power steering?

Alt Belt: 15A1060 10/85 on
Alt Belt: 15A1105 to 09/85

P/S Belt: 15A0890 10/85 on
P/S Belt: 15A0865 to 09/85

Yours being an 88 model means you have the right alt belt but the wrong p/s belt.

Then I'd be taking the ones you pulled off down to your supplier and getting them to measure them so they can give you the right belts.

so i got them changed and now the p/s is 15mm longer then what it should be and the alt is 20mm longer then what is should be but they both still fit properly so either the book at the shop is wrong or the PO did something funny with everything.
