i drove my sierra 1.3 from townsville to mundubbera last thursday - 1400km's in 14hrs roughly..on the way down i noticed this howling noise under the bonnet, kept driving hoping it would go away it did but came back worse i was on the marlborough stretch in the middle of nowhere when i decided to pull over n have a check what the noise was and it was LOUD!! it sounded as though something was loose and grinding inside something..i thought it was a pully but they all seemed tight...it was loud when idling even louder n worse when i rev'd it. couldnt seem to find anything broken or damaged, fan belt was tight and NOT slipping..
(besides the bottom radiator hose had bulgded out almost to burst - undid it and slid it up further on the pump shaft n tightend it again. fixed for now).
so as i couldnt find where the noise was comming from i assumed it was a pully bearing? or somewhere near there? pump shaft? alternator? i just got in and drove the rest of the trip on the hope nothing would go wrong and id get home ok..which i did the noise went away again and hasnt returned..although i can still hear that its making a howling noise from the engine still.........
got me stuffed i have no clue what it is...
