Problem using water and oil

Post by horndog »

Just need some help and ideas whats going wrong with my motor

I recently rebuilt the whole thing and done about 4000ks now.
For a bit now it has been using oil and you can smell it when your behind it, at the early stages i was thinking its just cause its a new motor and it will settle down but it hasn't and now I'm fairly worried.

It is also using coolant as well have put a new radiator and new hoses in it and made sure about 30 times it isn't leaking coolant and its not.

The coolant is disappearing cause the overflow bottle isn't filling up nor getting low but going down in the radiator. i also just checked today with the overflow bottle hose in a cup of water and there is a bubble every few seconds.

I need some advice is it a head gasket cause that"s what I'm thinking but i cant really afford to pull it apart at the moment cause i need it for work but i dont really want to keep driving it cause it might wreck the motor.

is there any other way to check to see what is wrong with it without pulling the thing apart.

you could do a leakdown test and see if you can find out if it's leaking air and where.

What's the turbo like? your oil problem could be bad seals, or it might be the pcv hose dumping oil back in the intake. You could run a catch can and see if that helps. That seems to be a common problem with turbo'd 1hz's

Why did you need a rebuild, and when you did it did you have the head checked for cracks (also common)?

its a brand rebuilt turbo and i have the breather to atmosphere as well, its got a bit of blow by to more than my old motor i think, i rebuilt a blown motor as mine had 320 on the clock and i wanted to start fresh, the bloke crack tested the head then and it was all sweet. i think i will do a leak down test but to see y it is using water
