^^ yep, "portable" is pretty fricking meaningless, for some people a 240V unit on wheels that they can put on the back of the ute is "portable", basically anything smaller than a big workshop compressor. Or do you mean something small enough to hold in one hand that runs on 12V?

Ok Ill TRY to educate you

This is a 4wd forum that means we drive out in the bush in our 4wds
if you are that inteligent to take a 240v compressor that takes 2 blokes to move and a generator to power it then maybee this is not the place for you to be giving your 2 cents worth of opinion.

As Ive said to interlectuals like you before

Common sense just isnt that common anymore

 honestly if you think your original question was clear enough to get a clear answer then you are the one who has no common sense. Instead of bitching and arguing just take two minutes to explain what you want. Something for a camp site? Something to refill tyres? Something that will run a rattle gun? Something that will air up 36" tyres in four minutes each after you've aired them down, or just something for an emergency situation? Something you can carry around and load and unload, or something you can leave in one vehicle permanently?

Clear questions always get good answers on this forum, that is why it is the best 4WD forum in the country. Your question was shithouse and that is why the answers seem silly to you.

Man, everyone must be bored. Ive got a twin tongue & its doing the job very well & is a quality product but its a pricey compressor. For nearly the same money you can get a endless air set up wich most are using these days. If there not in your budget the ARB compressor is getting good reviews, wich is reasonably priced. Also the blue tongue, bushrangers. Check out 4H's website he sells a big variety of compressors. Cheers Loz.

Hey mud,
There was a great product test in 4wd action recently.
ARB's product came out very nicely, although i have to say that when put into hard work i've known a couple to fail. To define hard work, air bagged vehicle which regularly alter pressures.
The Terrain tamer TTAC3 has proven to be fairly reliable and has a good output.
The BOSS unit is also proving to be good but has hefty current draw.
Coupled with a 15l or so air tank these units will run a rattle gun for changing tyres at a moderate rate.
If you have the room an endless air system is the shiz. Coupled to a tank, you wont look back.
You occassionally get the comments about no engine no air, however i've not known a situation where air is more important than engine... wd 40 for distributors...
Hope this helps.

Oh... it wasn't that hard to presume the man was looking for a portable 12V compressor for his fourby....

and stupid questions will still get stupid answers.

my mate when camping takes a generator, and seeing as he has a troopy has no trouble fitting that and a 240v compressor if he so wishes

How quick do you need it to pump up?
what duty cycle?
How big are the tyres?
By portable do you mean alligator clips to tha battery-share it around with your mates, or portable by hard wiring it into your 4wd, being as portable as your 4wd is

A boss unit would probably be no good as they would still need wiring up, a relay, switch etc. i have one of them hard wired in. it is made portable by the 20m air hose i run off my air tank

here is one you should be looking at

I take this 12v pump out bush with me every time.

It won't do 35 inch, but I'm already up to 10 inches
