another tb42 turbo straight gas setup question
another tb42 turbo straight gas setup question
ok before every1 roasts i have used the search button an cant find wat im looking for guys so any help would be much appreciated
ok im goin to do a turbo conversion on my tb42 running straight gas i already have a b2 converter im probably goin to run a ignitor 2 with crane hi6s im just wondering wat sort of gas injection people are running, maybe gas research???? any part numbers on it or where to get the adaptor to fit this to my carby manifold??? and also where to get a high mount manifold cheap???? and wat size an spec turbos people are running i want it to spool pretty early but to keep atleast 8psi to 4000 rpm.
i have a few turbo lying around including a decent size t04 off my rx7 drag car but i think it may be to big
cheers

i know what you mean with the search function.
most people use gas research. give them a call and tell them the setup you're running and how much power you think you'll make and they'll tell you what carby to get for it.
not 100 percent sure but i think they might also sell adaptors to suit the patrol manifold. pretty easy to make yourself anyway.
i'm going to run a r33 skyline turbo on my 4.2 originally off a 2.5 motor so i think it'll have good response on the patrol motor.
Cheers

Nice to see someone else turboing the TB42, when they get a bit of boost into them they seem to go like scalded cats.
For turbo gas, the best was to do it is Gas Research as their LPG throttle bodies can handle positive presure.
IF your TB42 is a carbi job then you will need to get an adapter plate from Gas Research to bolt the throttle body up to. If yours is EFI even better as the Prelum chamber is better than the Carbi chamber for storing gas and delivers it cleaner and the Gas research TB will bolt direct to it.
i was considering this setup on my mav using an EFI Premum and Gas Research TB but a rollover saw the end of that

Hi Boodge
I have turboed my tb42 haven't had it dynoed yet but goes hard. Good to see you have up graded the ignition as it realy needs it.I made my own manifold but I have seen them on ebay before my turbo is a gt35 ar .70 compressor housing and i think it was a ar.68 turbine housing with a external waste gate it will run full boost at about 2000rpm and will hold at lest 15psi at 5500. i have a impco l type converter with balance lube and 225 mixer could probly run two converters has i think it runs short on gas when working hard. depending on how much boost you are going to run you could use a 400 0r 440 gas research carbi

thats what i use on mine, a garret rolla. You wont get much boost this side of 2500 rpm, however, after that range, it will pull like a train all the way to the rev limiter. Mine is efi on petrol.
Use the efi prelum as it supposed to flow better....

Re: another tb42 turbo straight gas setup question
i am going to annoy many people with this post BUT I CANT STAND GAS RESEARCH, way too fiddly, and i have been told the line, oh its the only one that handles positive pressure, yada yada yada, well the people that told me that can go spend 700 on a g/r throttle body. I used an impco 425, and had a poor electrical system, ended up backfiring, and blowing the 425 into about 5 pieces. i now use an impco 225 and i couldnt be happier with it, i would never go to gas research!Boodge wrote:ok before every1 roasts i have used the search button an cant find wat im looking for guys so any help would be much appreciated

hey thats pretty much my setup, its not the mixer, most likly your converter, if it hasnt been dynod. mine was doing that, leaning out at the top end, so i put a blue spring in it and that fixed all my issues, it was making 147 at the wheels with the poor electrical system, have yet to get the time to put it back on the dyno but i rkn fixing it all up its gained a fair bit more torque!stevejl wrote:Hi Boodge

Re: another tb42 turbo straight gas setup question
cheers guys will start searchin around ill probably go the impco 225 just have to find 1 now, im building it on a budget (just bein a tight ass lol) tryin not to spend to much just wanna spend it on the right parts lol.
its actually a old school t66 with a t04 comp housing an a 1.06 rear so its a pretty big rear but the 13b was only mild ported an would be on full boost by 3400rpm an made 300rwkw on 14psi. ill just try it if its to laggy ill put something smaller on lolReddo wrote:Boodge wrote:.. size t04 off my rx7 drag car but i think it may be to big

Re: another tb42 turbo straight gas setup question
Yepo. Its manageable, however, if its not coming onto boost, its dies in the arse, especially if you have std gearing and big wheels.Boodge wrote:cheers guys will start searchin around ill probably go the impco 225 just have to find 1 now, im building it on a budget (just bein a tight ass lol) tryin not to spend to much just wanna spend it on the right parts lol.

L type converter is only rated at 200hp, so its pretty muchmaxed out on a std tb42.stevejl wrote:Hi Boodge

Boodge wrote:ok was quoted from a mate who owns a gas workshop 695 for the complete gas reasearch kit with b2 converter adaptor throtle body etc is this the way to go???. dunno wat to do but i want the cheapest option obviously but something reliable lol.
Wat did every1 do about head gaskits wat gaskit has every 1 run my mate has same conversion and he dose a gaskit every weekend its a new head machined pistons after market dissy cam work. but the head gaskit is the problem pleas help
Thats my biggest problem as well. I fitted a copper head gasket after blowing 3 grafite composit std gaskets (head was machined flat) around the fire ring. Just cracked the head in the #4 exh port leaking water there now but when I checked the copper gasket it had signs of combustion gases passing to water jacket. I think o-ringing the block with receiver groove in head is the only solution to run more than 15 psi boost.
mines 450x300x75 fits in nicely behind the high mount, and as far as heads go, mines been fine so far, altho its only been on there for 6 months but i know of a few that run low pressures as dailys (under 14psi or 1bar) so you should be fine, ditch the valve springs tho, they are rubbish and end up holding open!

hey i was running a t04 and it hits boost way to late like around 3500rpm, but it did pull once it was in boost. im running gas research throttle body and converter, the throttle body is a 400 and seems to work properly.Boodge wrote:cheers guys will start searchin around ill probably go the impco 225 just have to find 1 now, im building it on a budget (just bein a tight ass lol) tryin not to spend to much just wanna spend it on the right parts lol.

head gasket
Turbmav
I have had mine turboed for about 12 month now running 12 psi never had a head gasket problem running standard gasket if both block and head are flat should not have a problem if pulled down right and doesn't hurt to retention after about 1to2 thou Ks after new gasket
