surf engine and body questions

Post by Hardzy »

just picked up a surf for a carton, with a motor in peices and half the wiring chopped. my main question is anyone got a motor to suit these that they want to sell cheap?

also are the body panels on these models the same fitment as the 4runners?

Body panels, yes and most other parts.

Motor, depends on what motor yours had.

I wouldn't bother with the 2LTE(2.4ltr).

Grab a reco or 2nd hand 3L (2.8ltr) or 5L (3.0ltr) and whack the turbo kit from the original motor on it.

Match it with a decent exhaust and it will have more grunt & last a lot longer than another 2.4 will....

Have a look at http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/forum. Heaps of conversion info there, and I think there were a couple of 2nd hand motors for sale as well.

Part of me is toying with wedging a prado spec 1KD-FTV into a surf.... Ive already got a surf 1KZ-TE in an LN106 hilux... but something bout a 127kw/410nm turbo diesel in a Runner or surf appeals to me....

Massive headfark with the wiring tho... the hilux was bad enough and was practically a direct swap!
