diesel rangie?

diesel rangie?
hi, saw a 88 model-ish rangie for sale with a 4 cylinder turbo diesel motor in it. I am wanting to know if they came out with this motor and what the motors performance is like. And what to look out for.
Thanks Jeff
Thanks Jeff

hey bud, they did come out stock around that era with a 4cylinder TD, the only one i know of was chucks from haultech, and from his mouth they were a terrible engine, nice and detailed i know....find out exactly what motor it is and we can help further. it may be a motor swap to a early defender/disco 4 cyclinder or even a 4BD1-T

It came out standard with the italian designed VM diesel. It doesn't work well with individual cylinder heads and suffered a lot of heating and other problems. Some versions of this engine were boat engines and most in the RR ended up becoming boat anchors.
Many of the diesel RR of this era have had them replaced with a TDI 300/200. If it still has the original engine I would be very weary - if it has a later TDI just check the conversion has been done well.

The 2.4 VM was part of a family of engines used in BMW stern drives as well as the Range Rover.
They had individual heads and head gaskets used to die . Parts are now very hard to come by.
But if you found one with low mileage and in good condition, their performance was about = to a 200Tdi.
Land Rover set a world speed record with one!!!
