Post by southern patrol »

Hi guys, 2002 GU patrol, love camping in out custom 4x4 trailer, I got a whining noise comming from my engine, been told it maybe a bearing comming from the air conditioning compressor any ideas?? also, I got a mate who was toled by the police that lights mounted to his roof rack on the front is illegal, yet I have seen may roof rack mounted lights as well as on top of roll bars on utes, this is allowed???

is the noise there when the a/c is on or off or all the time.

and you should be allowed to have roof mounted spotties as long as you have to get out of the car to turn them on. that way you cant turn them on from inside and then they are just there for show. so this is what i have been told

yeah, its when the car is on,,, the whine is a little louder when the ac is on. so you can have roof mounted spoties if you can turn them on and off from outside the car??

What motor do you have?

You will find that the TD42 has a seperate idler arm pully and teh bearings there are renowned for failure. If you have the ZD30 then there is an idler pully tensioner bolted to the front of the motor and is likely to be where the problem is. Search here for other threads as there has been a bit written about this.

In relation to the roof lights i am not sure about the "out of car" rule?? depending on the state you will find different rules apply. Certainly if you have the covers on your roof lights then the police haver nothing to talk about as they are not functionable in that state and will require you to get out of the car to take the covers off.

They can not be wired into the high beams and operate when teh hi beams function as they can impair drivers from over the crest of a hill etc.

I have mine ona seperate switch and never had a problem with the coppers before. I probably would if i got pulled over sand hassled about it. I would then take them off in 3 minutes and that would be that.

Hope this helps. check the lights with teh local RTA or roads authority.
