GU towbar - want more offset from chassis - the options ?

OK - Im trying to find out what towbars will fit my GU wagon (now dual cab ute)

New dual cab tray has a fair bit of overhang - and Im trying to move the towball further backwards away from the chassis.

This will give me more clearance between tray and trailer
AND
make it easier to hook up the trailer.

We are talking a hayman reese hitch style bar here. 3500Kg rated.

My current one has the cross beam directly below my chassis crossmember.

Ive seen some utes with the main cross beam of the hitch offset a long way back from the rear of the chassis.

Can anyone tell me where I can get one of these hitches with more rear offset (or can I mod my current one ?)

moving the ball further away from where it is now, will reduce your tow bars limits,

the towball downforce weight will drop and the overall towing capacity will drop,

Keep in mind the utes have a lower towing capacity,
and i also think the rear fo the chassis on the utes is slightly different so the ute tow bar might not fit,
i know this is the case on the leaf sprung gu utes,

try and get one off a ute most uste i have see all have longer towbars then the wagons..

There are different towbars for the ute's and the wagons.
Ute ones hang out the back by about 20/25 cm where as the wagon one sit below the chassis.
The chassis's are the same. The ute ones use the 4 bolt mounts in the rear chassis crossmember(same spot wagons have there bolt on recovery hook)
You want the ute one but the tow capacity is only 2500kgs on the utes.

Why not buy a longer slide in hitch. Most towbar suppliers will be able to sell you one to suit. They come in hollow or solid.

Are you sure about the 2500kg towbar rating for the ute hitch ?


I already have a slightly extended slide in hitch. How long can you get them ? Where from ?

You can use a SOLID hitch up to 450mm from the pin hole and you will be able to keep your rating.

Hayman Reese website has there bars at 2800kg for a wagon, 2500kg for a ute.
