4 Link rear - end?

Guys,

I have been trying to gain and understanding of my current (stock factory) setup and whether a bolt on 4 link rear would work on my 80.

I have a fair idea of 5 link etc - but not sure on how a four link would work on my rear.

I know it will mean no more panhards - but what about flex? how will it affect hill climbs etc? Jus some answers or link to some good info so I can learn!!

Probably best to change the front end first, cause it will improve things alot more by getting rid of the radius arms than changing around the rear links, but if you want to 4-link the rear first have a look and make sure you have room for the upper triangulated links, cause you want them long, and I think the fuel tank and the crossmember that your short upper links attatch to now will both be in the way??
The advantages if you can make it fit will be less axle steer, higher roll axis, pinion wont point at the ground under full droop & the axle will articulate the same both directions without the panhard dragging it to the side..

Have you looked into a bolt on deal? I can't imagine being able to bolt on the chassis mounts for the upper arms.. and a bolt on bracket for the axle housing mount for the upper arms would be a massive object..

I've had one offered by Calbah - they reckon they have a bolt on kit to suit that'll make the rear work really well.

With a 5 link front - wouldn't that make it really soft? I have seen some around that are pretty messy on road but work well in the fun stuff.

There is room as i have a body lift done and have more space from the top control arm mounts.

My main reason is so when I put 4+' of lift I don't have to muck around with panhard etc - similar price to buy the kit as it would be to set all the geometry up witha stock set up.

What else would work on the front end?

5-link or leaf springs, that is about it if you still want good streetability.
I dare you to be the first leaf sprung 80 series owner :crazyeyes:

A bolt on four link rear end on an 80 probably wont give a lot more travel as the top links would be too short..

I the standard 5 link rear and it stretches and compresses RS9012's all the way.

I also have a 5 link front on my 80 and it drives fairly well. I can do the legal speeds and a bit more on the hiways etc, but i also have the swaybars on for on the road.. The front also stretches the 9012s right out..

Hmmmmm, maybe if I still had my old 45 Ute - I'd Leaf the bugger!!

But - yeah - 5 link the front = $$$$$$$$$

@$1200 to go four link rear bolt in. :D :D

5 link front can be done for about $1500..

okay then - options a go go here!!
The reason I wwas thinking 4 link rear was to get rid of the Panhards - I can only lift 3" without changing them over to adjustables, althouh that would be good.

5link80- - do you run quick release swaybar on the front? I took both of mine off - makes bush work a pleasure instead of getting stuck with a leg in the air. On road it's not too bad as long as you go easy.
