will the 5 speed gear box out of a 1985 3y petrol hiux fit the same car but with a 2.4 desiel?

Yes, change bell housing - and you may have to muck around with speedo drive gears to re calibrate the speedo. I put a petrol one in my 2.4 diesel and speedo is out 10 k/p/h @ 100kph on speedo = 110kph using the petrol drive gear & using the diesel speedo drive gear was 80kph on speedo = 100kph (not looking for any more fines.
