hi all the big question i have a tb45 in my comp truck and it is sitting on the floor looking at me and saying turbo me i have a big bb garret to bolt on and all the fruit but alot of people that i have talked to have said the rods are small and dont handle big boost so i put it to you the online community what have persons used, done and what is out there that i can use and how much are thay

The tb 42 rods are stronger and fit. Got some sat in the shed as it happens. Let me know if you are intrested.

Define big boost. I have seen TB42 rods bend at 22 psi. We have custom made rods in our TB45 but expect to pay $3k or so. We have been running up to 28 psi boost with water injection and pump fuel to get to 380 rwkW.

As said above if your cranking the boost up you'll need to go a different set of rods.
The 4.5 Rods are much smaller than 4.2 ones.
Ask Russell "the wheel man" Mason :D

There are a couple of aftermarket brands that sell Rods for the 4.2/4.5 and aftermarket pistons too as they can have trouble with ringlands too... however my personal opinion is that this is more to do with pushing too hard with the ignition/fuel and getting rattles under load...

Popular choice in rods is Crower... and with the dollar the way it is I think you'd get them for an alright price.
As for Pistons I believe your choice is a little more limited. The boys in Rocky running boosted Nissans have Custom Pistons from a company in Bris. You would have to talk to them for more accurate details.
Maybe jump on the Rocky 4x4 thread in Trips section and chat to them there.
Jaso85 has a boosted up rig with flash internals...

Anyway hope that helps... lotsa cash in turbo charging a 4.5 though... the 4.2 is a better starting point if you haven't done the conversion yet... we ran 383rwhp out of a 4.2 the other day with stock rods, inlet manifold and all basic parts... And it's got no drama's getting punished all day every day...

what about pistons from JE, CP, ROSS, VENOLIA or another piston manufacturer? My brother had custom venolia pistons made in 1990 for a 235ci holden 6 cheaper than buying hemalites.

tb42 rods that have been shot peened will be fine for the average weekender. But if your going to go big boost & race it no standard parts will be good enough no matter what you do to them. I know of a tb45 that has been built to suit turbo that has standard pistons but h.p.c coated shot peened tb42 rods nocking out 200rkw on 37s.

Crower have off the shelf TB42/5 and TB48 rods.

go to there website and look under the 'sport-compact' connecting rod section.

TB45 rods are 25mm x 14.10mm
TB42 rods are 22mm x 12.25mm

granted the tb42 rods are stronger, but the tb45's aren't match sticks either.
