Diff widths, rim mounting face to face....

Post by Drewfus »

Ok, i'll confess, I'm lazy and a tad ignorant at times, hence, I'll ask the question rather than spend a day walking through a wreckers with a measuring tape and other req'd tools,
'how wide are the zooky/Rol-a-lux/Vitara and other diff's?'

I've sent myself into a bit of a spin as I've got a few options up my sleeve to put under my 82 Sierra (keeping in mind, down the track I'm intending on fitting a 3.5 litre motor, and at least a set of 33's)

Another one for ya, whilst the late model Vitara's (and feroza's) have independant front, did the real early ones have front 'diffs' or am I just dreaming.....

Cheers, and have a happy (and safe) New year,

Drewfus

All Feroza's have IFS..however..the Daihatsu Rockys have solid axles front and rear. I know of one zook in the US running Rocky Axles under the zook. I'm trying to track down diff ratio info for the Rocky, apparently there is a bit of variety available..width is around 1480mm front and rear on the Rocky (wms - wms). Detroit lockers are available for some of the Rocky Diffs.

Hilux diffs are actually about 1" narrower than the Vitara (rear) one... the overall track is something like 5mm wider on the Hilux but there's about 15mm difference in rim offset.

not that this is gonna make a major difference as you can easily make up for it in offset anyway and the axles should be robust enough to cope with the extra offset.

Anyone know the MQ track figures?

PM LJ Extreem he has access to some MQ type items :)

From memory - i think they are about 200 - 300mm wider than a sierra front diff is (though that sounds very skinny still :? )

That makes them the same width as a GQ and I didn't think that they were that wide.... after all the GQ has the rounded wheel arches and needs the flexiflares to clear the "wide wheel option 31"

I also thought from memory the MQ rims had more offset than the GQ ones.... (although I could be mistaken)

I'd hazard a guess that they're more like 58" - which would be around 200mm wider than the Widetrack.
