New XROX bar for the 120series Prado.
Hi all, just thought i'd give you a sneak peak at the XROX bar being developed in WA.
MUMSRIG has been in for the design and manufacture of a Comp Style tube bar called an XROX Bar to be made by Outback Accessories Australia http://outbackj.fu8.com/index.php
Coastal 4X4 http://www.coastal4x4.net.au/? have tee'd MUMSRIG up with Jessica from Outback Acc for a bar similar to this one to be made.
Whilst MUMSRIG is in for a nose job she will also be measured up for some rock slider type side steps and an underbelly bash plate. All of which will be commercially available through Coastal 4X4 in Jandakot and other selected 4X4 accessory stores throughout Australia.
The bar can include aerial/sand flag/spotlight mounts x9, recovery eye locations x2, jacking points x2, detachable side wings, hook locations x4, and it will be Air Bag Compliant and developed to accept upto a 1500Lb Warn low mount winch. It will then be Zinc Coated and Powder Coated in a choice of colours and can also be finished in two pack to match your duco if required.
This bar will offer the EXTREME Off-Road Look that I know alot of people on here are chasing and best of all it will be airbag compatible!!
At this stage the guys at Coastal 4X4 expect that the bar will retail for around the grand mark. I will update this thread with firmer prices when it id built.
Tell me what you think and hands up anyone whi maybe interested.... This is another QUALITY AUSTRALIAN made product.. Support local!!
Should smarten up the front of MUMSRIG somewhat don't you think?
Here are a couple more pics of the bar on display at Coastal 4X4.

The bar is fabbed and ready for a jig to be built. Another bar will then be made from the jig and sent off to the powder coaters. Jessica will give us a call when they are ready to fit it up.
Can't speak highly enough of Outback Accessories thus far. For 1, the loan of their 200 Series was over and above our expectations. Made life so much easier for us as we only have the one vehicle at the moment, the 68 Camaro is still under construction and I am still working on the EJ20T Leone. Many thanks to Jessica for the use of her Cruiser.
MUMSRIG will go back in in January some time for the sliders and underbelly protection to be built.
Here are the latest pics.
The raw prototype.
Got a fair bit of tidying up to do behind the bar to make it look neater. Flat black and maybe even some wings off the lower pipe to help hide things? Will see once the real bar is fitted properly.

Aha, so your the man I will point to when the Mrs says she doesn't like itGearhead wrote:i actually make these at work and just built all the jigs for that bar on friday so will hopefully have the bar ready for you before the holidays. the current hilux weve done the bar but i havent made the jigs yet i think that is going to be monday or tuesdays job.
We won't be able to get it fitted before the new year even if it is ready I wouldn't think. As much as I'd like to, I can't see the Mrs trimming the inner gaurd and tidying all the wiring up whilst I'm away at work. I get home Wednesday night and we drive to Kal first thing Thursday morning.
No doubt Jessica will call when it's ready anyhow.
Cheers
Dont suppose you got a pic of what the hilux one looks like?Gearhead wrote:i actually make these at work and just built all the jigs for that bar on friday so will hopefully have the bar ready for you before the holidays. the current hilux weve done the bar but i havent made the jigs yet i think that is going to be monday or tuesdays job.
Am interested to see what you guys did with the profile of the bar underneath the headlights, since the headlights and grille are very curvy in shape.

i dont actually do the designs some one else does that. they basically come up with a design and prototype then i come along and make the jig for it. i also do the final manufacturing of them after the jigs have been done. if only i could do auto cad then i could do some designing as well.MUMSRIG wrote:Aha, so your the man I will point to when the Mrs says she doesn't like itGearhead wrote:i actually make these at work and just built all the jigs for that bar on friday so will hopefully have the bar ready for you before the holidays. the current hilux weve done the bar but i havent made the jigs yet i think that is going to be monday or tuesdays job.

No offence but your 2 cents aint worth much.....Lux_89 wrote:Whats the point point in having a tube style bar on a car like that (stock uncapable family wagan) is what i wanna know?? Bit showbag in my books? Not to mention, makes a perfect nice looking car look like a pile of shit.

Im thinking of fitting this not to a stock wagon but to my hilux that is currently running3" lift, 33's (bigger in future), front air locker and soon to have a crawler box fitted...far from a stocker......
others are in the same boat......the stocker in the pics is just a mule for the first trial fitment/development.....they need something to measure off......whether its a stocker or modded the mounts are the same.
My 2 cents.....Im after approach angle and clearance and this is a legal way to go about it.

Thats fine, im just referring to adding one of them to the 120, thats why i said wagon..... Im entitled to add my 2c worth. There are plenty of bars offering better protection, good approach angles and compliment the style n look of the vehicle.. Ive had both, n unless ya doing serious serious shit, i dont find them necessary that all.. As i said im entitled to my optinion.

in regards to other bars offering good approach angles please name me one?
Not ARB Surely......Ive just sold off my ARB bar anmd sidesteps because I kept getting hung up on the front of the ARB bar....it just sticks forwards way too much and more than a decent bar should...for touring, which is where most of arb's products are aimed at, its perfect....but nor for wheeling hard offroad...theres no option for that at the moment.
http://www.monsterrides.com.au
Ive seen some nice tight huggers, and i recon arb's are great? Maybe not for yours, i dunno, but mine sits good, n after modding it for the bodylift has more than enuf clearance... Maybe do a cablift, then go the arb n lift it up... Makes a world of diff. Also another brand ive seen in a mag, there local (aus-) n they sit reaaaallly close to the grill.. when i find it ill let you know, but they dont have the side headlight hoops, but that dosent seem to be a woorry seen as ya going tube anyways. I had a tubey, now ive got a arb on my 106 n i dont by almeans skirt around when offroad, n i only occaisionly get dramas.. id rather hit my bar, then get a rock or a log jammed up in my guard n break shit. Only thing i find with tube is great airflow, never got hot..
Dont get me wrong, great approach with tube, but how far do ya go with a road/daily driven truck..

Thats why i added the showbag part, looks as though they are just for looks.. Are they adr'd? ?The wings with that lil amount of gusseting on top, combined with the bolt on aspect, and no bracing from the outers back into the main cradle would probaby fold in big time if you shunted a car at 20km/h or even less. Or will this one be braced? The others shown arnt. Especially with a car worth 40k+, id rather have an arb or similar strength/cover. Even on my old shit pile. In reality, ya dont wanna have 2 insurance claims, ive never had any damage from the two acco's ive had with my bar. And ya dont wanna send a lifted truck with bigger tires to an insurance mob, theyl wipe ya insurance straight up...

Yes, they are described as a Comp 'LOOK' bar, so yes they are showbag. However in saying that they are fully engineered and tested independantly and are even airbag compliant. Can't say the same for a home made jobbie.
As far as being an uncapable family wagon, well... I beg to differ. I competed against a 90 series Prado which was stock and got beaten in the Kalgoorlie Gymkhana and number of years ago ( I had a 4.2ltr stroker Rangie with all the fruit), he was just willing to hurt it more.
As far as ours is concerned...well... weve had it places that I think you would be surprised. I actually went over some of the old Gymkhana tracks yesterday.. Only got one vid and it's not much but with 45PSI (hwy pressures) I had a bit of a fun with my son and nephew at Hannan's Lake.... As per normal, doesn't look steep or rutted on the vid.

yeh i know i know what your saying. Ah well, as long as they have design rule codes and are all sweet with the engineer, cant see them being a prob.Hwoever i would still be looking at more bracing, even if it is all bolt on, to stiffen it all up..
Nice vid

I agree with you 100 percent, I think if I see another tube bar on anything other then a competion vehicle I'm going to vomit. Won't be changing the factory steel bar on my gu anytime soon unless I bend it.Lux_89 wrote:Whats the point point in having a tube style bar on a car like that (stock uncapable family wagan) is what i wanna know??
