Shock Treatment!

Post by philby »

Hey everyone,

Today I ordered a new set of shocks for my rosa, Rancho RS5000, out of the 4x4 monthly mag. The service is great! and better still FREE DELIVERY!!! that cuts out the middle man so i save a few bucks.
Dose anyone have Rancho's on their car? if so how do they perform?

No, not at all. Emma's got them so she's the best person to comment on the RS5000.

Try doing a search on the Daihatsu forum for "RS9000X" and you'll see what we're talking about.

Many things go into making a decent shock- and not just the quality of the components. It's also important that the internal valving is suited to the weight and spring rate of the vehicle- this is where the RS9000x falls down for a Feroza. The same Rancho shock that is specified for the Feroza is also specified for use on a Ford F series truck. The result is a shock that is way too hard for the lightweight Feroza. I'm not sure if the same applies to the RS5000.

A few people have had problems with the Ranchos leaking oil too. I noticed there was a new post in the General 4x4 Tech yesterday mentioning it again.

Another interesting thing is the pricing of Ranchos- over in the USA they are relatively cheap. Here in Australia they are an upmarket shock that competes price wise with Koni, Bilstein etc.

Hey guys,
A quick question that hasn't been asked in the FAQ thread on suspension. 1) Has anyone installed the TJM kit Series 2000? I noticed someone saying they had the polyair shocks in the rear suspension on a Feroza, does this accessory replace standard shockies?

Thanks in advance
