navara 3l - patrol 3l (hand grenade)

Post by JAFO74 »

HI all just wondering, my brother in law is currently looking at a Navara with the 3l motor, are they the same 3l motor as the well known and hated hand grenade?? Do they have the same problems, just not sure and don't want him to have probs.
Thanks

same motor but different turbo and control system.
early ones 00-03 had same problems as patrol (not as bad due to lower powered) but later ones are fine.

one thing to watch is the turbo. its not water cooled and if the previous owners never let it idle down the turbo's don't last long.

Check for excessive blow-by on the intake pipes too. I have a few mates with ZD30 navara's, and while only one (early model) has shat itself, they have all had issues with oil vapour sitting in the intake and making a mess.

thats normal and not necessarily caused by excessive blowby. hence why these motors need decent catch cans.
