Nissan TB42 Turbo Patrol Straight Gas Intercooled
This is my Nissan GQ Patrol I have turbo'd. The turbo has been on my Patrol for about 35,000kms now and it really made the car. I have just finished installing the frount mount intercooler which has made an awesome improvement in all areas. I have to make up a new airbox now and will post some more pictures when finished. When I have time I will dyno vehicle and let you know how it went, but no matter what it makes I'm very happy.

I'm using a S350 Gas Research carby and B2 converter. I'm running MSD 6BTM boost retard ingntion with MSD Blaster Coil. Still using points as trigger and it works fine. Can't wait to dyno it as I wound the boost up a couple of nights ago to 13psi and it goes a rocket ship. Have to do clutch now as it can hold the torque. It frys the clutch in 3rd, 4th & 5th with the boost wound up once it hits 2200rpm. Really puts you back in the seat. I've taking a couple of mates in it with boost wound up and they can't believe what it goes like. Accelerates around the speedo like you wouldn't believe. The intercooler has really made the difference. If your looking at doing a similar thing make sure you intercool it from word go. My motor has done 245,00kms now, it's totally stock with still no problems.

Given you have the TB42E it is relitivly simple to turbo. There is a few good threads here and you will be ale to get part numbers of relevent turbos to fit that should be available of the shelf in Spain.isma4x4 wrote:Hi.

I am not an expert by any means I am sure others can chime in with the best way to set up the ECU etc, but take a look at megasqirt, google it and you can do some research and ask questions of the megasuirt forum regaring set ups, but basically it is a plug in ECU that you program for what you want.
You will need to get a manifold made and run a new exaust for the turbo set up an it would be benificial to put an intercooler on it also.

Now I work in other car, Nissan Patrol Y-61 TD6, in Spain the car is whit little motor . I wan change the td6 for td4.2 by nissan and instalation a turbo. In spain is imposible located a TD42T.

The current owners of Gasresearch were not the designers, I worked for the origional Gasresearch Australia (Steve Malone and Leigh Sharples), the sizing is based on the Holley formula. Which equates to about 360 CFM. If looking for peak power then a carburettor is sized according to at what is the lowest rpm the engine will operate and be able to sustain sufficient fuel mixture. If an engine is over carburettored then at wide open throttle the mixture will be too lean at low rpm and unable to be richened without causing an overly rich high rpm mixture, this is the nature of the venturi diffuser. That engine can easily support a 400 CFM carby as can a 4.1 Falcon, 4.0 Falcon 3.0 VL and 3.8 Holden V6, it will return improved performance. These engines are considerably more efficient than the old inline sixes (we used to fit a 350 to a a manual 3.0l VL but not an auto 3.0l VL) and small capacity V8's of the 60's and 70's that the Holley formula was designed around. I was forman and tuner for Gasresearch Australia for 4 years before buying the workshop with a partner and forming Gasresearch Perfomance centre, we were at the time responsible for 60 % of all Gasresearch sales in the county.
My advise is based on 15 years of product experience, take it or leave it.

TB42 Turbo
I just did a trip to Streaky Bay over New Years. Full car load and all our luggage. Weather was around 36-40 degrees. Fuel economy was between 4.2 - 4.8km per litre. I have 150 litres usable, it took three fill ups to get there, but they werent full fills. The round trip was about 3950kms. This was with a/c on 90% of the way. It was funny coming into the Adelaide Hills where I had a 100 Series diesel fly past me doing about 120km getting a run up. I would just leave it in 5th at 100kms and drive straight by him as my car doesnt even think about slowing down. He was back gears and still ended up way back in my rear vision mirror until the next down hill where he would fly past again. I could put the foot into it and it accelerates up tne hills no worries at all. When over taking road trains you just leave it in top, put your foot down and she pulls like a steam train. I fitted a three stage electronic boost controller just before Christmas and dyno'd it. It made 150rwkw @ 7psi, 180rwkw @ 11psi & 203rwkw @ 14psi on a 36degree day. I just leave it on 14psi but with a push of a button you can change between the three settings. I just love driving it, bloody awesome.

what non turbo tb42's would get under those conditions, and lpg should
use about 30% more.
I would have thought your figures would have been around 30 litres of
lpg to every 100 kays????

Fuel figures are spot on. I've always done fuel mileage checks before and after the turbo was fitted. Fuel economy picked up after turbo was fitted. If you give it shit all the time it usually gets around 3.6kms to the litre. Most turbo tb42's I've seen normally lock the distributor to a set timing so they sacrifice fuel economy at cruise. I run a boost retard igintion so I still have normal timing curve (mechanical & vacuum) until it comes on boost and thats when it retards timing in relation to how much retard I have set and how much boost I am running.

more hp means you need less right foot for a shorter period to do the same job.
like on a long hill, before turbo you may have to drop back to 4th and full throttle, after turbo 5th gear part throttle.
of course this extra power usually gets the better of you so your fuel economy suffers.
my last 300km trip before turbo i got 15l/100km on petrol, tb42e running 33's, will be interesting to see what it does now with the turbo.

I did a trip up to Howitt Hut over to the Pinnacles and back a couple of days ago and got about 250km to 70 litres, I'm about to do a diesel conversion on it so I can get fuel anywhere and use heaps less.
Will be sad to loose so much power but these days It hurts to pour so much money (fuel) down its throat.

it has a 4.2 carby, the car already runs gas.
i already have a t3/t4 turbo wich i want to use and have a 400cfm gas reserch throttle body.
can anybody help me out with any info on how to do the setup and how to go bout engineering the car as i want it to be legal?
