I want Good Reliable rock lights. I want to run 4. 2 In front of the front tyres pointing straight down and 2 around the front of the rear pointing back.
Have seen a lot of people use Oval shaped Supercheap, Repco, Boganbarn, etc specials BUT I want to do it Once and Once only.
I'd like the same spread if not better, Probly more at the rear -
So:
What have you got?
Were you get them?
Price?
Durability?
Have you had them completely under water? Hot/Cold?
Have you cracked the case (Rock's/Logs/etc)?
Have you blown Bulbs? How offen?
How do you find them on the Battary?
I was using the cheap NAVA ones and never had any issues. Positioning is the most important thing, I have used the oval supercheap one in the past, but they never seemed to last.
The beam does not have to go that far, so you won’t need a high wattage globe, leds should draw even less current.
It is more critical that you have them in the right position, high as possible up under the body and limit as much shadowing as possible.
The other thing I find handy, is a light shinning from behind/beside the driver down onto the front wheels

How do you find them on the Battary? No problem but that does depend on,
- how good your battery is
- how good and the charging capacity of your system
- what load you already have on the charging system
# I use sealed 12 volt down lights (the type you use in your house).
# costs about $8 for a 4 pack at bunnings.
# Ive used them for 2 years of comp work, from OUTBACK CHALLENGE to everywhere else.
# always on in every night stage.. never broke or blew 1
# I use a hole saw & cut a hole in the inner guard then siccaflex the sealed light into place then wire them straight to my parkers, I only used 20watt sealed lights, as they put out more than enough light.

You will have lots of shadows. Better to use 2 infront of front diff. 2 behind front diff. 2 infront of rear diff and 2 behind rear diff.
Just go to Supercheap and get the halogen lights that look like down lights. Cheap and pretty strong and pump out some good light. 3 of us have been using these for the past 18 months and they are still going strong.

So now that's what I think of whenever someone mentions rock lights

We have led down light in the place I am in in Darwin, from what I have seen they don't seem to last. From memory they all have been replaced, some of them are being replaced for the second time, and I have only been here 3 1/2 months.

The single 1,3,5W LED's tend to be a lot better than the clusters of 20+ small 0.05w ones.
Harder to find though.
The brighter the light, the deeper the shadows. You really want diffused ligth to spread into the shadows.
12V fluoro's can be cheap and shed a lot of diffuse directional light. Easy to waterproof.
