The first version of the Maxi locker Mal was using Ford 9" sun or spider gears.
Mal ditched them because they were breaking. I broke mine...

The problem with stock Ford 9" diff was the housing was not very strong and the differentials themselves were nothing to write home about. With an aftermarket diff and housing, you get lots of strength in a small package.

See the Link posted above by Bush65 , website for MRAutomotive who will start Manufacturing of MaxiDrive lockers again next year ,I'm told they will initially start with the Salisbury units first and then move onto the Rover units . Might pay to give them a call.
The "New" unit pictured above was an overseas order which I believe was sent back , I was Just fortunate enough to have picked it up.

Whats the scoop on this Ashcroft mob? If I buy a Puma, should I seriously consider an axle upgrade?
Would like to at least put a rear locker in - how does this effect with ETC?

#2 good mob in the UK been doing LR stuff for years.
#3, the puma is known for very poor QC on the diffs, plus its even a worse design than the old rover diff...It is commonly not set up correctly from the factory and have been found to be very low on oil from factory. Ashcroft are looking at some HD mods for the Puma diffs. MD would also solve some of the problems with them and use Hi-Tough axles...then there is also Kieth at rovertracks in the USA that does the same sort of stuff.
