OK, put simple: how much "play" can a CV joint have?
extended version:
Got some SJ410 CV's fitted to LJ81 stockman inner axles for my LJ. anyway currently rebuilding the front diff, and those CVs seem to have both axial play and some radial play.
The drivers side has slightly more axial play, probably about 1or2mm (the SJ413 FSM lists CV play as 1.5mm maximum acceptable). The passenger side would be sub 1mm.
Radial play I can't really measure, but would be a couple of degrees maybe... Both similar sort of amounts. Should there be any at all?
all the play is definitly in the CV's, not on the spline on the end of the shaft.
Should i hunt out some "new" CV's? (keeping these for spares I guess)
or should I be OK to just repack them with grease and put them back in?
Thanks.
