if you lift a car 1", you should try to widen the track by 1.5". but with the vitara being naturally wide, wider than lux's, you shouldn't have to worry about its stability until you go over 3" TOTAL lift.Try_Me wrote:is the cars handling going to go to shit or wat coz this is my daily driver i can live with out it lifted if its too much of a problem.

if its your daily driver, save up and get a complete KIT such as OME, or tough dog, or similar, like pedders or so on. don't bother doing it backyard budget style if you are worried about the handling and stuff. you say you can live with no lift, then why not?
i have about 9" of total lift over a bog stock vitara, and i use it as my daily driver. i have no problems with it. i haven't measured its track, but i would dare say i'm about 9" wider than a stock vit too. measuring from outside to outside of tyre.
235's are a good size for a stock vit. good gearing still, and good handling also, as they are not too wide. they can fit on stock rims, but may not be legal, but 15"x7" sunnies arent exy.
30" might be getting a bit squishy for room under a stock vit, and you may find that the vit will be slower in most departments. if you change the suspension, the 30"s might touch or rub.
as for an A/T tyre, it really depends on what you can afford. i consider the good year MT/R as an A/T tyre. so i might not be in a good position to say what tyre is good or not. i have a mate with AT/Rs on his hilux. 31", wear good and grip really well (in the dry) but not so great in the wet. bridgestones seem to have a harder compound rubber, lasting a bit longer, and hankook lasting even longer. but your grip will go down with the harder the tyre compound. so just look into what ever you can afford, as a H/T or a A/T is basically all the same throughout the tyre range and brands. (all poo off road) so even if you get some cheap ones, it'll still be good enough for road, esp on a vit. they dont have mega power to light them up off the lights, or mega stopping power either.
i have 235 Maxxis on my X-Trail, and they are pretty good for a cheap tyre. grippy, and a relatively open A/T tread pattern also. looking at about $135 ea. can't go wrong.

if i was to go ahead and put the springs in my vit how much lift would i be looking at 180 rear and gv from v6 in front. also would gv v6 springs fit in the front of the car and comodore wagon in the rear
i think in going to screw it and go ahead with it its not going to cost me an arm and a leg to lift it if i dont like it take it out i guess lol
i got quoted for pirelli scorpions 235/75 $800 fitted etc and the 30's pirellis for $1040 fitted is that good for 5
also yokahama nankain i think thats how u spell it $120 each fitted

According to an application guide 180sx springs are same as s13 and also as sunny sedan.
The same springs are listed as lowering springs for a BMW e34 (indicating stock springs must be higher)
94 Honda Accord springs are 100mm diameter + 410mm free height with 12 coils it looks like in picture...
Mitsi Evo springs are 100mm x 360mm with what looks like 10 coils...

the application guide was only for the s13/e34 ones... can't remember which guide but just downloaded one from somewhere but no measurements on it
the measurements were from me asking people on peoples auctions from trademe.co.nz (new zealand auction site bit like ebay) so not too accurate i guess but gives me some idea of what to look for...
Actually just noticed that 410mm was out of a 1994 US Accord Wagon.... the 94 CD accord has roughly 360mm again...

i have a 91 vit swb,
i bought a 2inch set of kings springs for my vit, the back worked out really well with a 30mm spacer and some commodore shocks the back flexes and rides really well, the front was a bit more work. it is supposed to be 2:1 due to the ifs and wat not, so i only got a 15mm spacer. it currently sits much lower at the front. when i get around to it im going to fix it up. but im not going to go bigger than 2inches cause then u have to deal with gay shit like cv's and i only go 4bing a dozen times a year
how would standard springs and 30mm spacer go in the front?
is there any poing getting longer struts eg ome?

I put some S13 springs into the back of my LWB Vitara, and I got about 20mm of lift. So they may be too soft for a LWB, I did some rough checks of the spring rates, by loading the back with about 65kg of weights, and the S13 spring rates are softer than the stock LWB ones. So that will account for some of the loss in lift.
So has anyone actually found a spring that fits nicely in the front? or are spacers the best option to match the lift in the back?

I've got a 93 LWB Vit with King Coils Front & Rear + 40mm spacer in the rear & 20mm n the front.... This worked well in regards to ride & lift (85mm over original). I was looking for better travel in the rear & therefore a longer coil.... Came across Dobinson's XL7 Coils for th rear. Free length was 395mm. Remove the rear King coils & 40mm spacer * installed the Dobinson XL7 coils.... After taking some measurements, I found the car to sit at the SAME height. Ride wise I found very little difference. Now I got a longer coil for better wheel travel, now I've just got to find a shock the will give me the full benefit in wheel travel..... Maybe a commodore shock with a full extension of around 630mm in length will do....

td gemmini front springs will lift a lwb rear 3in and v6 gv front will lift 3in if you put them and 15mm spacer you will have way to much lift and you will have NO down travel.
you should flip the top strut mount if you do any lift .
and you will need a 60mm spacer for rear ball joint and 12mm tailshaft spacer .
this lift is cheap and rides nice on road .

anybody tried rear GV 2.5L raised 30mm king coils in the rear of a standard 1.6L LWB vitara? and which shock would suit?
OME have a soft and hard front setup. the soft should be ok. they only give 30mm of lift so small spacer (15mm) would add that little bit extra.
