LRA flares

G'day can anyone tell me if the lra flares are a road worthy item when fitted, cause i had a look at a few fitted to disco's and was woundering about the gap inside the inner guard ?

As far as i remember flares are required to cover the tyres when viewed in plan i.e from the top looking down.
The tyres may not protrude from the bodywork .Same as flaring guards on street cars as done in the 70,s.
Any gaps should be sealed up.

These things break pretty easy to, at least mine did
fibreglass is a bit brittle for heavy wheelin..

LRA flares are not what they're cracked up to be, I also busted mine on the first trip and 6-7 months later I had to bin them as they got smashed up beyond rea[pir and at $600 a set that's not good enough IMO .

If you're cheap, the rubber ones that clark rubber sell do the job, cost about $100 to do a Rangie. They look a bit cheap and nasty but who cares for that price.

Try the flexi-Flares you can get from paddocks in the UK, even with freight they work out a tad cheaper. These come in either 50mm or 75mm wide to suit what sort of tyre you plan on fitting. They'res a couple of sets on some of the LR's in our club and so far so good even with the occasional tree contact they stay in one piece

thanks for the help on this fellas but i think i will go with the LRA flares insted of the rubber beacuse i think it looks more leagel, cause i also want to be able to drive it into town with actracting to much attention.

just cruious is there anywhere in vic that i can go to buy flexi-Flares from ? or are they only posted ?

i can't see (legality wise) why there would be a difference bewteen flexi flares and f'glass? as long as they cover your wheels. bunnings flares too, but they can look a little ordinary, some 4wd shops sell generic rubber flares that look alittle better then bunnings flares too.

Mate Paddocks are brilliant, phone them and give CC details over the phone. I bought poly bushes from them at a great price with absolutely no hassles. Approximately 2 x weeks.

Try Clark rubber, they have different size flare rubber.

old boy did it on his disco
and it just looked un road worthy
so im not a big fan of it.

and ill probley make some type of inner guard eventurly
to stop dirt geting in there.

Aren’t flexi flares the same thing you get in Bunnings & Clarks Rubber? Bushranger makes them as well. The 65mm & 75mm flares have wire inserts which should keep it from sagging.
Is there any difference in the rubber flares sold in Clarks Rubber and the expensive stuff from Bushranger? I desperately need a set of cover the Jungle Trekkers

you could probly cut your guards to fit a rover sytle flare or a jeep style ?

Yep your right on the jeep shite tho they look crap just like jeeps get the flexy flare from the UK they look good cover the tyre well enough for rego and wont break like the LRA glass type

go the paddocks ones i have them and a few others in GCLRO club do to strong and look just like the LRA ones been a durable flexi plastic touching up against embankments trees and rocks seem to not have any ill effects unlike the fibre glass ones
