Hi all
Have just sold my Gu Patrol, and have once again been bittin by the 4x4 bug. Although this time i want something a little different. Up here in Rockhampton basically every single 4x4 is a GU/GQ with 3-6 inches lift etc etc.. very boring..
For this reason i am contemplating something like the 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WJ LIMITED, there are many around at fair prices and condition.
With these Jeeps are there any little quirks that i need be wary of? I would be definatly looking around for the V8 model.
I would be basically lifting the jeep at least 4 inches and running 33's will probably get one of these kits.

Thanks any info etc would be great especially from you jeep gods.

Hey TD lux.
The WJ is a good thing but it does have some quirks when building them up.
If you are the kind of guy that doesn't like to have to mod alot of stuff to do the lift and really just like your Nissan's I'd suggest going down that path again... In Rocky if you own a Jeep you'll get alot of hate from the local offroaders...
That all being said if you've seen my old boys WJ in the bowl on a saturday night you'd know that it is off tap! and weither mister mason want's to admit it or not, in a beach drag the Grand gave his turbo GQ a touch up!
So they have plenty of go, a great note with a aftermarket exhaust, leather, stereo and a heap of comfort right off of the bat...
But you gotta be a jeep man to appreciate it... if not you'll whine that you bought a jeep for the next couple of months before selling it and going back to a Nissan... it's a CQ thing... I don't get it!
Anyway. If you want to see more about WJ's and what the little tricks are with driveshafts, diffs, etc then get in contact with me and you can check out my dad's. It's got a 2 inch lift, 32s and a few other little things and it goes really really really well if you just wanted a dirt track/sand racer.
With a bit of bracing on the diffs and strenghtening in the body I don't think there'd be much in the bowl that could touch it, and it'd idle in traffic, have standard service intervals and not require too much of anything...
however if you want to go rock crawling, etc either get big pockets or buy something better suits... TJ's fit the bill nicely.
Hope some of this helps?

sounds like my 80I don't think there'd be much in the bowl that could touch it, and it'd idle in traffic, have standard service intervals and not require too much of anything...
one word.............TOYOTA
Paul
91 FJ 80 Project on the go - air lockers, 3in lift, super duper 3F, 36" pedes, toyota V8 getting prepped now
He He
You Toyota/Nissan boys!
A toyota that can't be touched in the bowl?! Must have a Gen conversion or nitros because while the 1FZ goes well (surely your not talking about a 2F) they are still a far cry from untouchable....... even in your toyota dreams!
Funnily enough though, and probably for the reason above (everyone has a nissan) toyota's are making a big comeback at the moment. There was a time up the bowl where you wouldn't even see a toyota up there on a saturday night as the place was over run by Nissans (and the usual suspects giving their jeeps a hiding!)
But just recently there has been a strong resurgence of 80's and earlier 75s/middys/hilux's that seem to be regulars on the scene too!
Its always great to see variety out and about!
