I don't know what a bump pass is but if you catch the car in front they will have to let you pass

I dont have anything to compete in yet, but sounds great!

What is the rules for re-fueling? Can it be done during the fatigue test? is there a limit to amount of fuel etc?

Great to see something very different, hopefully the competitor support is there!

There will be 2 refueling spots competitor will leave their cans at these spots with their name and competitor number on the can/s. No cans will be allowd to be driven on the track by the competitors. Due to static buildup we will require all competitors to earth out to the car before refuling and will have 4x9kg extingushers. If you run out of fuel you will have to wait for the refueling track marshal to come and fill your tank with your petrol.

I have been asked if roll over protection will be allowed to enter. The answer is NO. I will be confirming the minimum spec on cages next week.

but its called the speed event at the top of the page?
Yes and no. I have edited the title to better describe what the event is about.

The winner is whoever does the most laps wins. This means that the faster you go the better. In king of the hammers they travel a couple of hundred k's in the desert before they even hit the rocks. Not what we are doing.

Our event will be about 50% trails and 50% hard core.

You can be fast in the rocks and slow in the speed section and win or a bit slower in the rocks and faster in the speed section and win.

I think being more capable in the rocks might be the key though.
You might even find that the winch challenge trucks with the quick winching will have an advantage. Everyone will have their opinion.

After I go through the tracks myself I will update my opinion.

Shane
i have never been to the park or seen what the terrain is like but if it is only 1.5 or so car widths wide at the "hard rockcrawling" and a buggy comes up to a car winching what is goin to happen there? to be safe there should be no passing under winch but then that also becomes unfair to the cars that have to wait.

what sort of 4x4's are you aiming on getting there? winch trucks, buggy's, daily drivers?

My plan to put on the hardest rock crawling speed event, I don't know who is going to win, but I don't think I will be seeing any daily drivers there. Brenden says that there will be room to get around people in the extreme rock crawling section most of us haven't seen yet.

Everybody is going to find out before the event if their vehicle is capable by running the course in the weeks and months before the event.

There will be some waiting and there will be some break downs we will have to wait for. If you are worried about people slowing you down then try and qualify near the front of the field.

If it takes 1-2 hrs to complete the course, the front runners will be driving for hours before they start lapping people.

The creek is atleast 3 cars wide at any one point. Passing shouldnt be an issue. And i dont see why you would have to pull the winch out in a well setup buggy/outlaw car.

If you pick the right line.

This event is going to be brutal on the vehicles and drivers. I am excited. I hope to have a rig ready in time but it will be thrilling to watch the carnage as people fly over tracks which normally take hours to run.

My wife and I with baby decided to walk the fist part of the track. My wife was a bit tired so decided to go for a private swim. We then tackled the hill. Lets just say it's going to be one hell of a trip down for those who drive it instead of winching.

I'll put more photo's up of the sections as we take them

Did Keith drive down the first hill?

Do we have to drive through that swimming hole. Do I need a snorkle?

Cant be much of a hill if Keith drove down it :finger: Last Logan night run i was on he gave up at attempt number 20 on an obstical that every other car that attempted it had driven it in less than 3 attempts. 11_evl drove it straight after him in one go :D Wes drove his Defender Ute up it with one locker first go.

Any photos of the really hard sections like the boulders. :D This is probably one of the best build ups to an event that I have seen. More photos please. Definately gonna do one of three things. Race, watch or volunteer. :D

rock race

Post by HIGH ROLLER »

This is really starting to sound awesome the only thing you could do is bring it closer to Newcastle lol, but all jokes aside i'm very keen and will be looking forward to some more pix of the terrain. Any idea of the kind of speed people may be able to reach in the speed sections?
Now ive gotta go start preparing my buggy for it :D

Brenden did 90 in his 75 Series in non race conditions so not a top speed event. I am expecting to hear pedal to the metal V8's all day though.

I am keen to go out with a camera before the end of next week.

Cool 90 is still not that slow sounds good. Might need to strap a turbo on my rb30 then ;)
Are you thinking of running it alot like koh ie tools and spares have to be carried along or will there be a pit area? and driver/navi or can you also compete solo?
sorry about all the questions

There will be pit areas for cars that can limp to the position or you can fix it off the side of the track. No one will be allowed to stop in the speed sections. The buggies due to single seats will be able to have assistants at the extreme areas. You may just need to have more than one assistant. The buggies will have to figure out a way to winch successfully.

The top speed I would expect would be around 110-120km in 1 or 2 sections. There is plenty of room should things go wrong as there is no drop offs.

why do we need to winch??? cant we just drive the course...

and if you are expecting cars to do 110 then i wont be able to winch as i will need to make up time as i cant see my buggy going that fast..i reckon 60 would nearly top it out

I know we wont be going quick in the speed section. We will more than likely have our tyres down on pressure for the creek runs or try and find a happy medium pressure. It is to much of a pig to drive at low pressures. Just be good to compete and finish for the fun and challenge anyway.

Everyone is expecting Dave to have to winch :D :D :D

I seriously can't see top speed deciding who wins this unless you have an extreme crawler that can also go fast because there is so much rock crawling to do. There will be enough rock to separate the contenders from the pretenders.

You will be able to decide yourself which pressures suit best when you run the course yourself.

Hopefully in less then a month we will organize a slow run of the course and invite anyone who is thinking of racing.
