Everybody is going to need to winch, the question is how many times? That will depend on you and your vehicle and possibly your Nav. Just wait a few days for more pics and you will see. EDIT: Brenden is giving options for those who can't do some of the extreme part of a creek run, they will be able to winch a longer bypas track.

There is always water in the creek but not that much because of the rain.

Don't ruin the event by introducing a large element of winching. It WILL cause a lot of dramas.

If we want the hardest event in Australia then we have little choice. There are some step ups along the new creek that Brenden believes no-one will drive. We are not deviating from the course looking for winch hills, it will be the terrain along the creek that will stop the best of us. Then there will be parts where only the elite will drive and so on. EDIT: Same as my above post, it looks like Brenden will give winch options for those who can't run the creek therefore some capable vehicle may indeed drive it. We will see.

We will all find out soon enough when we organise a drive soon.

By the way, it would be great if we had a couple of volunteers who can be recovery vehicles for the day. I expect some carnage. You will have to be capable but not fast.

If thats the case, then all the buggies, and a majority of the capable rigs will be able to drive the creek. Yes there are some extremely difficult lines, but there is no doubt that it is drivable... I have walked this creek, and am hoping to drive it over new years.

Brenden says nobody has seen some of the stuff he is talking about. He reckons he knows the creek you are talking about and is using part of it.

I quote Brenden who says with a sly grin, "You said you wanted extreme".

As soon as I can pull Brenden away from modding his 75 Series he is going to take me down. I don't want a winch event but I don't want every capable buggy to be able to drive it, just 1 or 2 would be perfect.

As long as there is terrain to separate the good from the great then the course will do its job.

I could put my hand up for a revovery vehicle. No gaurantees as yet, due to how far away the event is and the fact I havent got my new winch on yet!!!

GU ute
38's,
locked.
custom hydraulic winch with rope (yet to be installed)

I assume the revoveries would be winching, not snatching? Is there a way to easily get to revovery point? Or do I have to drive the same track? Could I drive/winch it without panel damage?

I hope I can make it to the event. Sounds bloody awesome

Have you guys advertised this anywhere else or just here on outers?

This is sounding like a unique comp that could attract competitors from different 4x4 backgrounds!

I feel that it would be benificle to promote this up and down the east coast as you would probly get a few of the tuff truck & cliffhanger crowd to attend which may bring more sponsers???

I feel you should get it on 4wd tv and 4wd action and the like to get broad group of competitors.

I would like to do the pre run first before I decide to enter as they 1 persons hardcore is anothers piss easy!!!

I dont understand why at these comps if you win they give you a winch, when the rules state that you must have a winch to compete???

Just my 2c not trying to ruffle feathers.

There was going to be a similar comp run emu creek years ago, but due to no publicity it fell over. But after talking with people that competed and had capable vehicles that would have competed, it would have been a big deal.

Get the word around, people will show.

How about a new set of decent shocks for the winner. I bet everyone will need a set of them before they are finished. We haven't approached any companies yet to be sponsers so prizes won't be finalised for a while.

Valid points for advertising. We will get a couple of guys to come down to make a promo video.

I think Outerlimits is Australia's hardcore forum but feel free to post it up wherever you want. Just pm me a link to the web site so I can answer any questions. Maybe copy and paste my first post. I have put a post on the Patrol forum and 4WD action forum. I posted up 3 days ago on these forums and had no reply whatsoever, they must be soft over there.

What I was getting at with the advertising was alot of 4wd competitors dont have spare time to get on the net and some of the older competitors just dont use the net.

I seriously think you guys are underestimating how fast a buggy can be driven. Remember most still have High Range ;)

A few things i would recomend that should be compulsory that every vehicle have. Functioning high mount tail/Running light that must be illuminated at all times the ignition is on. An operational high mount brake light. An operational Horn. (there will be vehicles within close proximity of each other in the fast dusty sections and without these i could see some nasty crashes occuring) Radio Equipment. min of 2 in date fire extinguishers within reach of the driver and navigator while buckled in.

A well set up buggy can go 260km/hr but not on these tracks. If you have seen king of the hammers then expect bigger rocks, larger drop offs and lots and lots of rocks, not so much flat dessert. If you go fast on the rocks then you will have it won in my opinion because 90% of the time will be spent in the rocks.

I expect half the guys who enter won't make the first lap.

Having said that, keep the advice coming please, especially on safety. I will talk to Brenden about the other recomendations.

Just an all day thing. On some of the speed limited tracks there are dangerous drop offs and Brenden made the call that it would be too dangerous at night. People can spend the night recovering their junk.

The track facts!!!!!!
Will winch cars be successful and competitive due to the big rock stages? Yes. There will be two options when the cars get to the big big rock creek section. There will be winch hills for the cars that don't want to do the major big big rock creek gullly the one mitch is talking about. The cars doing the creek track must give way to the car coming down the hill. The creek rock run is about 150m and there will be 3 hill climbs and descents for the winch trucks crossing this creek. Approx 600-800m. The creek track has at least 3 different lines so there won't be a traffic jam.
The winch hills will be wide enough for cars to overtake. If you get caught on a winch hill there will be a set of winching rules that must be followed as we must ensure the Navi's are safe.
I'm expecting this area to be a section where the truggies can make up some time on the winch trucks and class 8 trucks.

The rocks down the bottom can be driven easily by all cars just make sure you pick the good line as this is a speed section.

All cars must be able to drive the track at least once prior to the event.

Cars that will be competitive.
Buggies
Trugies
Winch challenge cars on 35's faster the winch the better
Outlaw cars
Extreme Modified with 35's
Class 8 trucks
There is plenty of room for passing and the areas that are to tight have speed limits so there will be no need to pass.

Usually the engine and the speed of the winch. The suspension is usually a bit softer it seems on the extreme mod cars that enter our comps.

Yes you can winch and crawl through the creek in fact you can take any line you want when your on the track as long as its going forward.

I have finialised the first draft of the rules and have sent it off to some competitors for comment. Sorry I'm not posting it as I know I'll get lots of helpful suggestions but I would like to put the rules up once and that is it.

Now for the rocks. I haven't got a photo of the top track yet but this is a sample.

Image

I have a DVD of some of the track so ill try and reduce it.

This isn't the track and only shows the creek speed section with a couple of the lower creek rocks. It's just taken me 2 hours to reduce the file from 250meg HD cameras they suck for downloading.
