Has anyone fitted one of these? I have seen some various fit-ups but not much detail.

I know Bullet and CAPA do them but sooo expensive ($7-$8k) specially when you can get one from the US for USD$2590 so about $3k landed.

Has anyone got a good price locally or bought one from the US?

How is performance and any dramas with the install?

I'm not after anything radical- just as best improvement as I can get without major mods.

I live and work at high altitude which knocks the arse out of performance!

Hey mate i havent fitted or dealt with one personally but i wanted to get one for my hilux which is the 3.4L v6 as well so ive done a lot of reading. From what ive read its a simple bolt in fitment that takes about half a day however it will take a few days for the computer to self learn the supercharger is fitted so it wont make maximum power till about 1 week after the install. They seem to have problems with low rpm high gear knocking- so if your cruising at 100km's for example in 5th gear and you put your foot down the engine tends to "ping" or detonate. Having no personal experience with one its hard for me to say if there are ways around this without more expense in the form of aftermarket management or perhaps lower compression pistons.

An alternative for more power that might be more suitable is a set of extractors and an exhaust system to suit. My hilux got a set of wildcat extractors and a 2.5 inch exhaust fitted for about $1100 dollars it made a world of difference to both power and economy. I doubt it has the same increase in performance as the supercharger but it doesnt seem to have any negative effects and its about 1/3 of the price of the supercharger kit.

Bit of a grave dig but do u happen to know wat the TRD kits run boost wise? Im looking into puttin one on our 02 prado for towing purposes and if I can keep it a simple bolt on procedure without having to worry about aftermarket management and bigger injectors it will make my day.

Pretty sure the fix for the pinging and intake temps is the 7th injector kit which URD or TRD do for about a grand.

I think they came with a few different pulleys. I looked at the TRD 1MZ superchargers and they were 4psi stock, They also had pulleys for 2, 6, 8 & 10psi. 10psi on one of these superchargers is pushing the friendship a bit though. I drove a 100 series with one fitted and a couple extra mods, the throttle response was fantastic and plenty of power from this one.

I did a bit more hunting last nite and founds the TRD install manual for the 5VZ kit, had a bit of a read thru it and it comes with a 7psi pulley, other pulleys can be fitted to up the boost but it opens a can of worms as far as engine management goes.

After reading the install manual it seems like a very straight forward job and the factory ECU will self learn ova a 200 mile period to compensate the fuel and timing for the boost. It doesnt mention anything about a 7th injector kit being required but TRD do sell a kit so obvioulsy in some instances it is.

Definately will be considering gettin a kit sent ova with a dollar being so good.
