I have a set of H4 Hi/Lo bulbs coming from on4tou like these:
Steve mentioned that an additional 12V supply was required to them. Has anyone installed these, can they verify this and also tell me if an earth is also required?
Just currently have the wiring loom apart on the GU and want to sort this out while I am at it and Steve is away this week.

Interesting setup, I have only seen the globes that either retract/extend, or ones that have a shield that moves to give you hi Lo beam.
Is it possible to fit these globes into other HID setups, or does it need its own ballasts etc? (probably needs two ballasts for two globes?)
I also have a HID question: how hot do the ballast get? I have a 60 series with twin headlights and dont have much room to mount the ballasts. I was going to mount them behind the stonetray area below the grille, but was concerned about water, so was thinking of mounting them in sealable boxes. Just concerned about heat buildup??

Dont worry about the heat - the ballasts are totally water proof too.
You will be restricted by how long the globe wires are - NEVER cut them. So once you fit the globes to the lights you will soon work out how far the ballasts can be by how long the wires are. Dont put too much pre-thought into it until get to put them in - no doubt your plans will have to change.
Steve and I sell HID to motor bikes so dont get girly about not enough room. You will find room, especially on a 60.
By the way - these are good globes.

I was looking at cutting them and putting waterproof plugs on them, would make it easier to fit to my 60 series....
The wiring is a special silicon coated wire (similar to spark plug leads), to insulate the high startup voltages that exist. (typically around 20,000 to 25,000 volts). Yes it is possible to cut the wires and re-solder them to lengthen the distance regardless of what some people say. And it will work up to a point. This will void your warranty and will ultimately make the life of the ballast/bulb much shorter. But it will still work.
After saying that, I highly advise don't do it.
I have made up 1.5 metre extension leads in the past, utilising proper silicon coated wire and the common HID 'AMP' waterproof plugs and sockets. Bulb / ballast combination still work well after years of abuse.
