Clunking noise.

Post by mercxr6T »

Hey guys, I have a 86 mk swb. After last weekends 4wd trip I have now got a clunking noise coming from the steering (I think). I can drive over all sorts or terrain and as long as the wheels are straight there is no noise. If I try to drive through an S bend or when I change direction on the road I can feel a thud through the steering wheel and hear a fairly load clunk. I want to try and fix it myself and was thinking that if I jacked the front up and turned the wheel full lock both ways that I might be able to pinpoint the problem. Are there any common areas of failure in the steering. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
