GQ 4.2tb 96 st /GQ 4.2td 94 RX wiring harness differences?

Post by pete's GQ »

Does any one now if the wiring harness are one in the same for both models, or are they different? 96 is auto and 94 is 5spd.
I have to complete cars in the car port now.
Are the diffs the same ratio?
will the auto front hubs make a difference.
The main reason for this is that the rx was my pride and joy until two stupid pommy uni student came thru a stop sign at 80k's in a 50k's zoneand wrote off my front end.main wrote off the radiator and the chassis rails most else is still good.
so the project is to swap out the petrol auto and swap in the diesel 5spd into the ST patrol?
any ideas or thought would be welcome at this stage. :P

Not sure wiring loom, prob the same except for corner lights.
Diffd ratios different, but check comp plate, last 2 nos give ratios ie 39 = 3.9 etc
Front hubs make no difference.
Use speedo gear that goes with drive train fitted.

speedo drive train

Post by pete's GQ »

what do you mean by use the speedo drive train cable. Does this mean retain the 5spd cable over to the 96 ST .
Cheers and thanks for the info.

Auto hubs arnt that recommended for 4wdriving. Great for that little 4wd track, but when you're doin a little extreme, i suggest u get out your tyre change lever and put the auto hubs on 'lock'

Reason for that is.. Auto hubs are great for goin forward .. but the bad thing is when you are reversing after a failed hill climb, the auto hubs can unlock themselves puttin your car in 2wd - a potentially dangerous sitatuion.

Speedo is electronic, wired.
