79 series ute

a mate off mine has a 79 series ute with the factory turbo in it he is haveing truble with the ideal up on it when u change gears it revs up and if he puts his foot on the clutch it takes about 10 to 15 sec to come down to ideal if some one could shed some light on this would be appreciated.

Does it have any sort of power up chip fitted. I believe some of them can cause this problem.

no chip i just took the ute for a drive myself and lets say at 2000revs on gear change it revs up to 3000revs and takes about 5sec to come down

Does it have a hand throdle, That been wound up or some thing may be., sounds like a return spring or some thing of that nature

Boost/fuel compensator playing up, throttle cable sticky or anything in line of the accelerator pedal to throttle control.?

If the motor is off and you put your foot down can you see if anything is sticking for that 5 or so seconds and then letting go in the engine bay cable/pulley etc

have driven a few off them and the ones i drove all did it.they are slow to drop in revs .
if it aint forced it wont go

check the throttle spring and the lever arm hasnt got dirt and crud
built up
under the dash on the pedal as they are all electric fly by wire throttle
if that is ok you need to adjust the throttle switch
