Holley carbie on 3.5L

About to buy a 350 holley and manifold off ebay to replace my twin stromberg setup as its getting a pain to work with on my 81 3.5L rangie.
Just wondering, apart from the obvious offroad disadvantage of the holley, what else am i missing out on?
Also can i expect better results from the holley as compared to the strombergs?

Holleys are fine off road ... just avoid going up or down hills ! And if you can avoid side slopes that would be good as well. Apart from those few niggley little issues they are great . I had one on my first rangey , and since driving the bobtail with the standard carbies I will not go back.

You need to fit a whistle to the primary bowl, which costs a mere few bucks and extend the vent, which are the round tube that stick out the top, to as far as possible, simply sliding some fuel line on will suffice, cutting it at an angle at the air filter height, this will prevent fuel spilling over from the vent tubes and flooding the thing

I set a 465 up on a 350 chev we put in a mates disco, it works perfectly off road, I'd forever had trouble with holleys off road prior to trying these mods

Dont the Holley Avenger carbs have the 2 vent tubes joined together

that seriously sounds like it would work. might look at doin a holley conversion on mine then.

That is not the only issue AFAIK.

Another fix that Holley do with their Off Road series is to have sprung needles and seats.

The Holley Off road series has the vent of a 4 barrel looping high over the venturi with pinholes in the top and side hung floats .

Yea, it appears to work well, I never bothered with sprung float kits, as they were dear as and you don;t bounce that much unless racing
