td42 vs tb42 flywheel

Post by mattza13 »

hey guys.

I am currently looking to buy a flywheel gor my td42 gq. I have found a few tb 42 ones and someone thats not sure if it was diesel or petrol. I was just wondering if they where interchangable? Or how to tell the difference between the two.

Any help would be appreciated. Or anyone that has a td42 flywheel they willing to sell can you please let me know

cheers matt

Ok I picked up a second hand TD42 starter today from the wreckers, Its way bigger than the TB42 with the extra hole as I expected.
Is it really a simple extra hole to be drilled into the bellhousing? or should I just get the TD42 bellhousing.?

td42 starters are reducten drive from memory, so thats proberly why its larger. also area 3 bolt whereas tb42 is 2 bolt.

i remember reading on here about the extra hole needing to be drilled and tapped.

I have a spare tb starter in the shed and I lined them up together today and wow the td is way bigger

Drilling and tapping is no problem, it just looks like there might not be enough room to get the bigger starter into the bellhousing??

anyone actually drilled this,???? I dont mind having to get the die grinder out as well if I have to.

I did the same thing when I did my TD42 conversion, I had a TB45 gearbox and just drilled/tapped the holes no sweat.
