Pros and cons of 60 series diffs under a vitara
considering stock 1.6 vitara gearing is 5.12:1 & you'll want to be running bigger tyres the gearing is going to be shocking & vitara transfer gears only change low range.

the other is 3.7:1, even worse.ZookStock wrote:My worries are that even with transfer gears, the ratio won't be low enough, hence dual cases. As far as I can research, 60 series diffs only come in 4.11's (there is one other rare ratio).
High range doesn't bother me, this thing gets trailered.
Peter.
Cable bracing is the way of the future!

I'd be putting that Sierra TC in first up. It will fix your gearing (can get Sierra TC gears to suit), and you could also set it up to fix your tail shaft angles.

Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
use the hi lux you can get 5.7 for them or the very uncommon in aus 6.2
another option is a 80 series front and a late modle hilux rear as the very close in with

i run 60 diffs with 5.29s and series 4 rockhoppers. My gearing is very low with 38's. I drive most comps etc in 2nd or 3rd gear with the 1.3 motor.
I like having the gearing superlow because i do alot of rockhopping tyre driving when not doing comps.
You could buy those hilux diffs and then sell them straight away. It would prob fund most of your R&p of locktup.
60 stuff is easy to come across which is an advantage. You are obviously going to run a fairly large tyre?

Mine had dual transfers, with a 1litre sierra transfer as the 2nd case. I had lux diffs with 5.29 gears. It had plenty of gearing, i ran 35's most of the time, but 37's were fine too. Double low 2nd gear was probably the most used gear offroad, and i'd just put the sierra case in high and leave the vit case in low when I wanted more speed between obsticles
have you had a look through A1's build up?
