looking at buying a duel cab just after info on the 3.4 v6 petrol and the turbo diesel just want fuel econ figgers as a 500klm day trips would not be out of the question and also how do the turbo diesel engins go on road keep up with trafic etc compared to the v6 petrol
also will only be looking at running 31inch rubber

I can help you on economy of the 3.4 v6 petrol with a set of extractors fitted. I get over 500km out of every tank. Apprently without the extractors its a struggle to get more than 400 out of every tank. So if you want the v6 one budget in a set of extractors and a matching exhaust system.
My friends 3L diesel in his 2000 model gets him over 600km out of every tank its on 32's but other than that its standard. His isnt turbo diesel though so its pretty damn slow.

other than the exhaust and extractors my car is still normal mate so its running a set of 31x10.5's Im sure the economy will be going out the window once ive fitted the SAS kit and 35's but for now its good.
just FYI my old 2000 model with the 2.7L 4cyl had 33's and used to get 430-450 out of a tank and all that had was extractors as well. I got about an extra 50 km's out of the tank when i fitted the extractors. And heaps better performance.

the 2.7's go better than you'd imagine, lots of torque, i cannot comment as i did not put extractors on my 3rz, but from having a good look at the standard 3rz headers, they looked like toyota had put a fair bit of work into them, they are not your average junk cast headers.
Throw some 4.5's or 4.88s in the diffs when you get 35's and economy will be near where it was.

What are the k's based on, highway, round town, or a bit of both?

2.7 was mint mate very torquey it will pull itself up anything. Beach no worries rocks/mud anything i tried no worries in fact the only thing i didnt like about it was on 33's at 110km on a pretty un aerodynamic vehicle (mine had 3 inch bodylift and 2 inch suspension plus the 33's plus with my quad and another mx bike on the back and camping stuff) it sucked trying to over take people.
The 2.7 i believe is under-rated its very very tough as i say it just sucked on the highway when it comes to off road it was as good as anything else out there. And mine had 230km's so it wasnt low km's and still going strong.
Yes the v6 is better its got more power and im hoping to supercharge mine one day to produce even more but dont discount the 2.7's they are tough little engines. Id choose one over the diesel engines anyday.
:Edit due to new post: ( Dont forget both the 3.4 and 2.7 were fitted with extractors before extractors on my 3.4 i dont know because they were the first thing to go on and the 2.7 before extractors take away about 50kms per tank) The diesel is standard - these are just mine and my friends car im doing camparo's on perhaps other people have more to add??

I think mine cost 200 dollars i fitted them in about 2-3 hours and it revs like nothing else once your done i left the normal exhaust in place and still got significant gains in midrange performance)
