getting centres changed on rims.. GXL ones in particular

Post by crankycruiser »

Now most of ya have seen wat happend to my rims, so im thinking of getting the centres taken out of my GXL rims and put into my 10" bands (after the old centres have been removed obviously)

has anyone ever put gxl centres in 10" bands.. i've only ever heard of ppl widening the std rims by welding a band to the outer edge..

If the inner diameter is perfect for the outer edge of the gxl centre. It should be fine to swap etc..

I'd be scared that the centre may not be strong enough to hold the 10"wide rim.

But there are alot of dodgy sunrasiers out there that could be worse off then you...

the gxl centre is actually bigger than the centre of the tens..

the gxl centre is roughly 370 and the centre of the tens is 340.. so wasnt real sure if they could machine down the gxl centre...

was also a lil worried if they were strong enuf.. but theres alot more steel in there thanthe centres i had, but its only 6 or 8mm? thick

The normal sunrasiers/ any other wheel middle part, usually have bent tabs to weld to the outer rims on the back. So machining them could be an option.

I wouldn't bother, for price and inconvienence.
Gxl's are 15/16x8 anyway arnt they?
What tyres are you running?

 So you need 10" wide then  Im so used to suzuki sizing.. 15x8 max rim and they reckon 10.5 is the widest tyre you ever need.. Pfft. im on 33"x12.5's

I think i would look into e.g rockcrawler rims that size..

You've spent the money on the tyres, Why not some decent rims?

Cruisers would be unique though, but people don't do them for a reason. money etc..

I HAD "decent" rims.. had some custom offset ones built by EWW... http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/ftopic196876.php

now my prob is getting some rims with the right offset... only rim i can find is the procomp which has 2.5" backspace... but i'll end up having to wait months for em....

so i thought seeing as i have a set of now useless 10"bands i may as well put em to good use...

I would be using the GXL cntres if i could, they are awsome strong, stronger than any "sunraysia" you will find and probably stronger ( or at least as strong) than the "rockcrawler" rims.

Machine them down to suit your 10 inch rims
