Hi guys,
Recently converted my Shorty Pajero to efi using TN magna bits, and Im having a few issues, well not really issues but just little niggley faults.
1) Idle speed - will not regulate its own idle speed, ive buggered around setting the base idle etc but the ISC motor wont open the butterfly as its supposed to, I can hook the ISC straight to the battery and open it manually, and THEN the ECU will take over and close it to the appropriate point, but it fails to open it...
ECU returns fault code = Motor Position Sensor Faulty
2) Base Timing - I have set the base timing as per the book with the check connector shorted etc, but it fails to wind in any advance, it stays set on base timing regardless and is a pig to drive, uses too much fuel etc. I have wound the dizzy round to about 15 Deg BTDC and its much nicer to drive, heaps more power and uses less fuel but then the ECU returns fault code = Crank Angle Sensor
3) Fuel Pump - Fixed
4) The Black/Red Wire - Fixed
5) The O2 Sensor - Fixed
Any help greatly appreciated, I have also posted this on aussiemagna.com but had no replys.

Im just about to do the same conversion to my 87 paj.Listening to your probs , im wondering if it is worth it. especially as the manifold is the wrong way around and the the water pipe exits into the firewall. cant find much help on the net ,where did you research.
As for your wiring issues, they may be connected to one fault, is it possible that you need more amperage, as in connecting that red wire to a positive source. Dont forget that sensors cant have a voltage drop, or they will read incorrectlly, and have error codes.also check your earths.
its funny how sometimes it can be a simple thing
Hope this helps
PS Do you know anyone who can modify the magna manifold ?

There is a fair bit of info floating around the net, especially over at Sigma-galant.com, they siggys use the same motor as the pajero, and it points the same direction, not like in the magna, those guys were really helpful and I got alot of ideas and info from their site.
Its totally worth it, its SOOOOOO much better to drive, and lets face it, my probs are quite trivial. The EFI is just 1 million percent better than the carby, i wpuld defo do the conversion again, and am looking out for a tr/ts magna for a second pajero conversion. I feel that that would be the better system to start with, as the TM/TN series EFI is quite basic.
I got most of my welding and stuff done whist I was at TAFE, the Aluminium Welding Teacher got me to do as much prep work as I could (basically just chop the bits off with a hacksaw) and he did the rest, did a sterling job too i might add, and cost me $0.
The fuel rail was done by my Father, and recently I needed a pin-hole leak fixed in it which was repaired by the Fabrication guys where I work.
My surge tank was built by Mallaby Sheet Metal here in singleton, again, another fantastic job, and very quick too!
I know there is a fellow on the Sigma-Galant forums who modifiys the magna plenums to suit RWD but I believe he is in Melbourne, his screen name is "Cheaterparts" I think he has quite alot of knowledge on the subject too.
Good luck if U undertake this conversion, I have a bucket load of photos too if that helps.

Ive sorted most problems my self (had dodgy o2 sensor, and fuel pump running constantly) but I have an issue with the "Crank Angle Sensor"
When I did the conversion I did a per the manual and shorted the check connector, and the sent base timing at 5deg BTDC, remove check connector and its supposed to advance to 13Deg BTDC - It didnt...
Anywho, advanced it to like 15Deg BTDC as this is where its seems to be best judging by seat-o-the-pants
Back to the Crank Angle Sensor. I did notice that on the TN Magna Donor car, the timing marks are on the opposite side of the timing case to the Pajero's. Is this where my problem lyes??? I remember being very particular when setting #1 piston to TDC and checking my timing marks, and also aligning the Dizzy on insertion. So whats the G-O???
Surely the Crank Angle Sensor cant be buggered as the car runs fine, drives fine etc. Wouldnt a buggered CAS not let the car run at all

I wiil building 2 mtrs, mtr 1 will be standard with weber carby, sports cam and extractors. mtr 2 willbe efi ,turbo and maybe a cam change. Got all the parts the other day of a 94 magna . Could only get a auto harness and computer. should still work I hope. I took the whole harness, and everything attached to it , including dizzy, starter mtr etc.
Dont know too much about your probs with possible CAS as I have not got to that stage yet. Might take me most of the year to get the second mtr done.
STill waiting for the turbo off my mates 4.5 patrol, which he got off a nissan silvia
Bought a box of parts the other day, and realized that there was a balance shaft removal kit in there. Bonus ,,did you use one?
Anyway thanks very much for the info. will study the wiring schematic ,see if I can work out your prob at the same time.

No mate, i didnt use a balance shaft removal kit. I did have the timing case, chain, balance shafts out at one stage, but this was before I knew the removal kit was avail. From what ive read its a good mod to do, but U do notice a little more NVH.
Im not sure about the 94 Mod (TR/TS?) but I know the TN harness & ECU are the same for Auto and Manual, there is justone wire earthed for manual, and on the auto it goes to the Gear selector sw.
Have U been over to Sigma-Galant.com??? Those guys are all into their turbos over there!
Sounds like a good build, interested to see how it goes. What are the motors going into???
