3.0 V6 hilux surf - bottom end bearing?

Post by islandvitara »

bout to purchase a 92 V6 surf, though the bottom end bearing has given up..

would it be wise to replace the enitre engine or just replace the bottom end bearing(s)? is there a kit available to do so or am i wasting my time with it?

Repair cost and feasibility will depend on what else has been damaged by the failed bearing. If there has been damage to the crank as well it will start getting expensive. I'd recommend popping the sump off and checking out the damage before making any decisions.

Get a price on an engine too before you buy the car. Also bare in mind other parts that may need to be done while the engine is out eg clutch. you might find that you would be better off buying a running car to begin with.

Having said that i also recently bought a 4runner with a bottom end knock, but i already had a spare lexus v8 lying around
