Gu Turbo Upgrades

Post by Wild_Beast »

hi all, just wondering what peoplehave done to power upgrade there gu's.
ive got a 06 4.2 ute ( 12/06 last of teh 4.2) and im looking at getting a stage 2 power upgrade at motsons, ive already got a beauy 3 inch exhuast with dump ( rear half is now all custom since shock mounts mods) so its bout 2150$ for i think it was about 145 kw and about 750ft/lbs using genuine turbo, just machining out the exhaust houseing from what i gatherd from him.

what have other people done? or had done? and who? by and how much was it? and what gains did u get?
haha lot of questions, im just curious as motsons have been around nearly longer than ive been alive and have a rock solid name ( from everyone ive ever spoken to) when it comes to diesels.

basically my vehicle is my play car, not a comp truck more of an aggressive tourer and i tow a 2.5 tonne boat time to time. im not after a rocket ship but im after more drivability with weight on board on long trips when i get to long hills etc. i dont want anything radicle as im after longevity still as my vehicle has just clicked over 38000 k's and im hoping to have it for lot of year to come.

any help would be great

Thanks
Andrew

G'Day ,
i know MTQ in toowoomba do a stage 2 type setup to the original turbo should give them a call . They might have a more competitive price and theyve been doing them for a fair while now .

Try speaking to John at Brisbane Tuning & Turbo... he does all the work on my GU 4.2 and it is getting some very good results running 16psi on Garrent BB turbo, modded pump, not intercooled and very safe EGT's.

It had a motsons stage II on it courtesy of previousl owner and she's all gone now! Never been better!!

cheers, thanks guys might look abroad a bit further now seeing few guys had trouble with the company i was leaning towards.
im not after changing turbos or anything just after a power up that utilises the genuine turbo as i dont want monster power.

Thanks again

John from BT&T did my 1st power up with std turbo and fule pump and a beaudesert 3" dump piep and straight through exhaust. Great results over and above the motsons stage II tune and kit and a lot lower EGT's...

If going down this road definately get a good quality EGT and boost guage BEFORE playing with anything! only need boost not boost/vacume and get EGT's in degrees Clecius not Farenheiht (sp?)... just some tips.

I have a highly modified GQ, but with the smaller RD28T engine, and have the biggest of the GT2871R series, with exhaust AR.86 and reaches peak boost, 1.3bar at 2700 rpm.

If you want power higher up also, a GT2871 is the way to go, I also have a LC 80 4.2TD and bought a GT3071 with ext. wastegate to mount on.

It seems that you guys down under are specially in the hunt for that awesome low down torque........./ie smaller turbos

Well low down power is what you really want in a 4wd, especially with something like a TD42 that doesn't really rev.
