Auto to Manual?
I have been looking around for an 80 series and haven,t got a huge amount of finances but anyway what i am after is 4.2 manual with A/C and around 200-250k on the clock but everywere I look they are either petrol, auto or no A/C obviously it will cost way to much to change from petrol to diesel so I was wondering what is involved with changeing the auto to manual and around about cost or whould I be better off trying to buy one with everything except the A/C but unsure of the cost of getting this installed.
Not overly hard lot of time though,
Alot of parts needed
Ive changed two Statemans Calais over hardest bit they didnt come out in manul so parts were hard to work out
80 series comes in manuel so youll need to source all the bits

Forgive me if this is just sticking my nose in... but are you sure you do want a manual?
The reason I ask is that when I started getting into 4WDs I came from more of a sports car kind of mindset, and thought autos were for losers. But now I have learned that autos are for losers in small cars and sports cars, but are the way to go for 4WDs.
Other than that, personally I would rather add A/C than swap auto to manual in terms of the work involved.

This is not legal advice.
Not sure I agree. In a comp rig or weekend toy - auto all the way.chimpboy wrote:Forgive me if this is just sticking my nose in... but are you sure you do want a manual?

In a touring rig, manual only for me. Lower fuel consumption, longer lifespan of box, no heat issues and best of all it can be tow/push started.

yer I have been driving manuals since I got my P plates nearly 20 years ago I got the missus to start driving on her Ls as well and when she got her green Ps I showed her how to drive manual and even she wont go back. I just feel I have more control over the car when driveing manual especially whith braking in an emergency.
I have always believed in having a plan of what you are doing and were you are driving and to know what gear you need to be in before proceeding and yes in sand as well as most other situations an Auto can be more forgiving but I find that if you are comfortable with your gear box and like everything else keep it well serviced even in sand you can change gear if you need to without loosing to much momentum.
We have definatly got our mind set on Manual and thank you everyone for there response but as SCANAS said I have been looking into the A/C side of things and I think this might be the way to go after talking to my mechanic today he has also told me that If I didnt want to go a new unit I could get one from the wreckers and he will help me get all the filters and seels I need and after I have put it in myself he will get it up and runnin for about $150.
